Endigo was following close behind Lightning. "You still haven't told me what happened, young Madam. I should like to know what happened to such a fine dog, too. Especially since it means I will have punishment to delve out to whoever did so on my territory." he said coolly, his brown eyes half hidden by eyebrows that gave him a concerned look.

Sedna quickly bolted into a dark alley, making her way through the dumpsters. Her black pelt blended into the darkness, making her nearly invisible.

"It started out with this pup," Lightning began, pointing with her tail to a sheltie puppy beside her. "She was following Sedna to the loner territories. She found Sedna talking to a strange dog. Sandy, you explain it from here."

Sandy stammered. "Sedna found me in the bushes... she seemed scared at first... But then she said that I was very clever and smart, and that she had a very special reward for me. She plucked off 3 bright red berries off another bush, and told me that if I ate them, they would make me become a strong, powerful dog. I did, and... I don't remember anything after that, except lots of pain, and past memories of my mother and littermates flashing before my eyes..."

After a few moments without response, Faith dropped the vine and began to anxiously pace at the opening to the den. "Sylver?" she called questioningly, worried about what may have happened while she was gone. Lightning flashed, flooding light into the den, and at last Faith could see Sylver holding a rather limp Ella out of the water. But what could she do? She looked around wildly. All that was nearby were small trees, barely big enough to be more than a couple years old. Could they hold the weight of the dogs? It was worth a shot, thought Faith.

Leaving one end of the vine down in the den, Faith took the other end and wrapped it as tightly as she could around one of the nearest trees, tugging at it to make sure it was firmly attached. "I'm coming, Sylver!" she called, practically leaping down into the water in the den.

She resurfaced with a gasp, heading over to Sylver. "I'll take Ella while you climb out! There's a vine you can use to pull yourself up!" she yelled over the pouring water and rumbling thunder from outside.

Sylver gasped, yanking Ella from the water. "Take. Her." She coughed, and held the pup out to her. The tall silver she-dog, dragged her weary paw to the muddy bank, but somehow, she couldn't find the strength, or the will, to climb.

Odio hid behind a rock, and watched as Sedna ran and hid. "She's afraid of them..." he said quietly. "But... why would she have a reason to fear her own pack?" he mused under his breath.

Endigo looked surprised, as he realized what was happening. "Go on. What happened?" Endigo said, smiling gently at both girls.

Faith cautiously took Ella, following Sylver toward the den's opening. Carefully balancing Ella on her back, she nudged Sylver with her nose. "C'mon, you can do it! We've got to get out of here!" she urged, though she was feeling pretty drained at that point as well.

Ella felt her body lifted from the water, and she could feel the liquids pouring from her lungs. She coughed and spluttered, spitting water at Faith, and kicking her paws feebly. "What happened?" she said. The water had stopped flowing into the den, now. The sky was calm and the slate-colored clouds were beginning to disappear from sight. She looked down at the water filled den and shuddered with horror, remembering what it was like. "Taj..." she whined softly, before slipping out of consciousness, as the blackness took over.

Sylver glanced back at "her pup", and shoved off the ground with a mighty leap. She struggled to the top, and barked down at Faith; "Now what?" Her voice was weak, and exhausted.

Faith had to think on that one. Could she balance the pup on her back while climbing up what had turned into a mudslide? She glanced back at Ella. It wasn't likely and Faith was not going to risk the pup going under the water again. She took Ella in her maw again, climbing up as far as she could on the slippery ramp out of the den. Her eyes holding a pleading look, she held out Ella as far as she could with the hopes that Sylver could reach her.
