"Over there," the dalmatian pointed with his tail to the forest, the same one where the puppy called Mel had fled to.

Taj tilted his head toward the forest, then looked to the two collies that were still standing nearby. He wondered briefly if they had been listening to what the dalmatian was saying. They were not of his pack, but certainly they could feel for the plight of the pup they had helped Taj get away from the human. "You girls wanna back me up? I get the feeling this won't be pretty," he said, shaking his head but still looking strangely optimistic.

"Sure thing," the second collie said, looking a bit grim. "Oh, by the way, what's your name? I'm Black Magic, and this is my sister, Lightning. We're from Goldenpack."

"I do have a pack, but I want to see you." She smiled again, and wagged her tail.

Layla wagged her tail. He's so much like Tashi. She thought. "Yes?" She asked quietly.

"Sure thing," the second collie said, looking a bit grim. "Oh, by the way, what's your name? I'm Black Magic, and this is my sister, Lightning. We're from Goldenpack."

Taj nodded graciously. "Nice to meet you, girls," he replied, a smile crossing his maw. "The name's Taj. I'm from Cerulean Pack, m'self." He gave a wag of his tail to hopefully show that he felt no hostility toward the dogs of a rival pack. Then, he turned toward the forest, holding his head high and looking courageous. "Let's go, then," he suggested with a small shrug, and he began toward the forest cautiously.

"So you girls are from Golden Pack, eh?" he said as he walked, hoping to strike up a conversation that was not awkward. "How's the prey running over there?" he asked, though he wasn't sure, now that he had said it, that that was the proper topic to make things, well, anything but awkward.

"Good," Black Magic said, "the dogs who get in the dumpsters think that it isn't, but kill-wise it's fine." Her ears flicked around as if there was something lodged in them when she heard some noise up on the mountain.

Layla wagged her tail. He's so much like Tashi. She thought. "Yes?" She asked quietly.

"Will you... be my...mate?"

"Good," Black Magic said, "the dogs who get in the dumpsters think that it isn't, but kill-wise it's fine." Her ears flicked around as if there was something lodged in them when she heard some noise up on the mountain.

"That's good for the time of year," he replied with a shrug, uncertain of what else to say. Sensing something as well, Taj let the conversation drop, hesitating slightly before continuing on his way. "Is it me, or is there something spooky going on out here?" he asked slowly, his ears perking forward as he attempted to heighten his senses.

Layla almost yipped in happiness. "Yes! Yes, oh yes!" She said, excitement bursting in her voice. "But, Scout. What about Melanie?" She said quietly.
