Surviving Minnesota!

Ralph I am so sorry to hear Judy is having trouble again. She's such a tough lady and I hope she will make a quick recovery. You guys are in our prayers!

I heard from the guys from the Minnesota Poultry association this morning (just got off the phone) they could not read my writing and figure out what the Cream Legbars were.

They are actually "excited" to have them exhibited. I even told them I wanted to show a pair of white sports and he said that would be great too. He does not think anyone else will be showing them. He said (yeah I know he is just one guy) he has never seen them but has heard of them!

I am now stoked to go to Hutch!!

If you talked with Mike, you will probably hit it off really well with him. I think anyone truly interested in promoting poultry wouldn't turn away a breeder who really is intent on promoting a newer breed if they are serious, which you are. Others come along and will bring backyard mutts and not have a clue that is what they have, or they have some F1 cross that they think is some amazing new breed because it is a color no one has ever seen.

They don't understand the time and effort it takes to actually create a new breed or color.

Ralphie: I hope Judy is in the clear yet. I think it takes quite a bit to get back on track from that sort of deal. I've heard it's a bugger. And I guess my excuse would be if she was found to be working at home a bit is she's trying to rebuild her strength...? But of course money talks with these people. And sort of makes them rude...doesn't it?

I still haven't heard the date on the Hutch shows...? Times...etc. If somebody has more specifics on how it runs that would be great. I can start googling too.

BC I think we bring birds Friday October 21st and bring them home on the 23rd??? @Minniechickmama probably knows

Yes, they coop in on Friday, or Saturday before 9:00. The judging starts at 9:00. It isn't like at fairs. The aisles are closed off and people are kind of shooed away from the judges during judging except the clerks, pretty much. You can look at the birds in the other aisles, but nothing is announced. They judge cage by cage according to class, breed, and variety. I don't remember if there are 3 or 4 judges this year. There are actually 2 buildings, one for non-waterfowl and the other for waterfowl, and an open poll building with the large waterfowl and turkeys. Most people selling will have their birds outside in trucks or trailers, maybe all this year.
It is a cool show to see many different breeds and varieties and some super quality birds.
I think we were allowed to coop out about 9 or 10 on Sunday last time. Like I said, it is not like a fair.

Many things to say.

First - Judy, Judy, Judy. Take it easy. You only have the one body. Give it time and stick up for yourself when it comes to taking care of it. WHY are you not going back to work for four hours or shorter instead of a long day.

Ralphie, Ralphie, Ralphie. The insurance company is NOT that interested in Judy taking time off to recover. The claims adjuster that is calling her is just being the AH they are suppose to be to get her to go back to work. They are not calling to be nice and see how she is doing. But you knew all that. They are more interested in the Dude or Dudess that has claimed a work comp claim and is carrying it out for months, years. Then goes out and is filmed, by the guys in the van sitting down the road, cutting down a tree when their back is so bad they cannot work because of that accident at work. Months and months of claims. I worked in personal lines of insurance for twenty years and one of my besties was in the workers compensation end of the business and she would hire the private detectives to catch the gipper cheating on the wc claim. Heard many, many stories.

In Judy's case you have all the doctor reports and tests and the insurance company has access to those so they will check those first before hiring a detective to watch Judy water or feed chickens for an hour a day - which, by the way is good for her to do for short periods of time. Increases the red (?) blood count to combate infections plus increases stamina slowly. UGH!

So I should disect Eva to see what may or may not be going on inside of her?

Going over to Runnings to get food and more or that dusting powder for their dust bath area. Ready to inspect each of them and douse the coop to disinfect and clean. Rake it out again. Clean out all the next boxes. I feel as if I have not sat down since that last weekend in September.

Actually, they have 5 listed. LOL They must want to get done in a hurry.
Don Karasek and John Thomforde, I know who they are. The others only from publications are Gary Rossman, Tim Bowles, and Jacob Bates. Maybe it will be a pretty good sized show if they have that many too. I know there are a lot of breed meets this time. We shall see.

There were no chicks as of this morning. I am sure there is at least one by now drying out in the incubator. I had to leave to go to school/work and it was Zipping with 4 more pipped. It will be fun to get home from school and see who is jumping around in there!
