Did you try the shaggy Mane BC?
No. I did not. I'm thinking edible vs. palatable. Jerry was Shaggy Mane worth the sauteeing?
Ivie, I read it..
Kloppers did you pound every nail or use nail guns? I have almost stopped using nails. I use screws now. I love the torq heads.
and less chance of hitting my thumb.
I'm with you, nail gun or torque screws. I like screws because if I decide I don't need a coop or want to remodel it, I can just take the screws out and reuse the material without worrying about breaking it prying out nails.
Ditto. Torque screws all the way. They are an investment though....eek...
Is there anything that can make a PC stop molting and bring all her feathers in in 4 days?
Oh No! Hold onto your feathers, girl!
Anyone want to know how turkey bathing class went?
Oh I wish I could have stopped watched some Turkey TV that day with some Stella.
And just not the birds. I've given a bath to a 9 lb buckeye hen. And she beat the crap out of me this spring. I was hoping to use the water for the next bird...but alas she had it splashed all over her owner.
Okay - true confessions. There is some kind of a bug crawling on my body. This has been happening for a couple of months. Yesterday and today I noticed it is ten times worse when I have been in the coop. I have dusted the coop. I am tired of this. Itching and scratching and drive me crazy.
We have so much company that at first I thought it might be bed bugs. I have pretty much ruled that out. My DH NEVER complains about itching.
I finally have spotted these - about the size of a pepper grain from the FINE kind. I looked up human lice. That said that they are a hygiene issue. That if a person changes their clothes ONCE A Week and washes their bed linen it should take care of the problem. I felt I had conquered the issue until I went in the coop. I thought I was going to go nuts itching while in that coop.
Any help you can offer? Are there bugs that the chickens have that humans can walk away with?
They are black. Besides dusting the coop with DE and raking it in good and then dusting the hens what should I do to the coop to rid lice and mites? I itch every single time I do in there now. Ugh! What does everyone do to the wood in the coops to disinfect them. I should know this - and I have articles on it - but what do you all do?
I just do not read ahead. Sorry. Ralphie you may have answered me already. I am running to get something to do the coop with so before I go - any other suggestions?
So I just walked in to check on the RIR. I put a heat lamp on her and she really liked that. I walked out and made sure I washed my hands immediately. But MY head starts itching right away which I could say is all in my head but in my make up mirror I pick up a critter crawling. Ugh! I will go get the stuff to completely do that coop - starting with the seven. Maybe I can dilute it in water and then spray it on all the wood structures and then dust it around the edge and rake it into the dirt.
I did the DE two days ago in the coop and in their dusting area and am intending on doing it again.
Okay. My guess is mites too.
*Sevin dust in an old nylon stocking. (Cluckies' tip--works awesome) Pat down the feathers on their behind (vent and fluff), under their wing, and saddle area. Do this at Night with a flash light. When you pull back the feathers you'll see them scrambling.
*If you have open sores oozing I've used a nicer cat ear mite solution. (it's cheap) and this seemed to be nicer on the skin and helped with healing.
*The end all-beat all of mite medicines is Ivermectin Cattle Pour on. I've had Californians on this forum tell me I spent $35 in vain buying this stuff and I'm here to tell you that they may have mites in California that are resistant to this stuff...but the mites here in Northern Minnesota didn't stand a chance in hades. Worked slick. Little bit of an investment.
***Important***You will need to recheck fluffs and vents with night time checks (flashlights) every week. Retreat each week until you see nada. If one bird has them. Usually all have them. Treat everybody. Hold eggs 2 weeks after your last treatment. (can be a long time
)
*Clean out and shop vac the coops. Paint the inside roosts and any bare wood. Barn paint. Take the Nylon with Sevin Dust and Powder all Nooks and Crannies of the wood in the coop.
*Check your birds once a month afterwards. Which reminds me I should sit down with everybody or do my Flashlight check tonight.
