Surviving Minnesota!

Vaccinated, ear tagged and wormed 28 steers this morning. Daughter shot a few slugs, had a conversation with 2 new buff orpington about no eggs yet. Couple loads of laundry done and orange is hanging on the line. May smell of skunk but at least it will mask the human scent.

Skunk? Is there a story behind this?! I always use the scent killer stuff they sell everywhere, but this year I hung up a bunch of Cider Tree branches around my stand and will rub some on my hunting clothes and boots. It smells amazing and is potent enough for good coverage. My Grandpa also swears deer love Cider. I'll report back on this Theory next Monday.

Ahhh - almost 12:30. I made a 'good' breakfast this a.m. for the at home DH and myself. Tonight we will meet friends for a hamburger at Rockwoods. So I am done cooking for this day.

DH is busy doing yard cleanup. Get er done as the next two weekends are the Deer hunting thingy.

Eat your hearts out - I got to have an hour with Ralphie over coffee. Good conversation! Made my day! Thanks Ralphie.

Now I am going to coat up and pick up lawn ornaments and flower pots and the pull the car from the two-car garage to make room for some wicker patio furniture and all the ornaments. Then I will still have room to get my car back into what should house two vehicles. That ain't happening for a while yet.

Hope your hours are being productive for each of you chickeners.

I butter bread with Coconut oil for Grilled cheese instead of butter. Use it to fry eggs I put some in my hot chocolate. It helps with energy levels and all. It really doesn't taste coconutty, just a sweetness but not sugar sweet. I don't know. My family puts up with it! Plus it is a really good skin moisturizer that we use all the time instead of lotions. Has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties too.
I went that avenue for a summer. I switched to using CO for baking and some of our other cooking. It was WAY expensive back then (about 13 years ago) and couldn't be found in a store, had to order online. Now they carry it in our small grocery store in town even. I may switch back to using it instead of shortening at least. I have already switched to gluten free, so now I will see how this next change can effect how I feel. Going GF has been really good though, my joints do not ache when I wake up in the morning now, and I don't have to see my chiropractor near as much either. I wish I would have tried it a long time ago, I think I would have had less back issues... but, live and learn.
I find I actually like GF pizza crust better than regular, but I have to learn to make my own now.

Speaking of pizza crust, if you want the most savory and much healthier pizza, try a cauliflower crust pizza. OMG! I hate cauliflower, but this crust is DELICIOUS!!!

My husband told me, and reminds me when the subject comes up, that he read duck fat makes the best grilled cheese. I would be happy to find a GF bread that is close to wheat flour bread first. Knowing the duck fat is SO not healthy, I am not sure I am up for trying it anyway.

They make me feel like Snow White or the Pied Piper. Down the Hill. ....Up the Hill. On my heels.

Patsy in the front there is stealing my heart.

And then my Boy... With the Buckeye feeling quite fan-girl about him lately too. Since they've resolved their food dish differences.

I feel the need to take lots of photos before the comb and wattles get beat up.

Ok I got a story but first let me say I am fine . Fell off the roof early today . Knocked me out for about 5 minutes I was told . Scrambled my thinking a bit . Wife took me to the ER . Checked out ok . Nothing broken just a couple of head bumps . MRI found a small blood spot in my head . I asked her what happened and she said you fell off the roof . I said what was I doing up there ? I could not remember I was roofing for a few minutes . So I am resting the rest of the day . I think I will tie off with a rope tomorrow . I did this before . Just seemed to have good traction today but not in that spot . Went to the Chiropractor for some massage to relax some muscles . Ate a late lunch at the Chinese buffet . Told my wife my fortune cookie said you take short trip .

That sounds a lot worse than my spill a couple of weeks ago. Glad you are okay and hope nothing comes of that blood spot. I can't imagine how you felt, but I know what I landed hard on my backside, it was enough to ring my bell and I had to sit for a minute to catch my bearings. I would climb a roof without a rope in my youth, but now you won't catch me up on one at all.
Take it easy, I am sure you scared the crap out of your wife.

BC, I hope that Welsummer cock is going into a heated coop for the winter. He sure looks great now but with modifications to his comb and wattles it could be different.
I found out what they look like without a comb and wattles. Odd, but still handsome. ;) Over the course of two winters my old cock that turned mostly white last year had all of his frozen off. He was much more comfortable once they were gone and winter hit, but I felt terrible for the pain he had to go through to get there.
