Surviving Minnesota!

I left the door of the run open for over 4 hours today but nobody wanted to venture out in the snow. Three egg day.

I kicked mine out this morning. Here is the Legbar pen, See my foot gently kicking them out the door..

I then went to the back of the coop to see how they were handling the snow..

They were not doing well in the snow, They were avoiding the snow, they were clinging to the foundation ledge to avoid the snow...wimps!

Today I was able to clean out the front half of the coop. Filled the wheelbarrow then realized I had no path through the 4' drift to the garden. Hubby says I need to take the plunge and learn to use the tractor without second guessing myself. I think I will have to sit with him the next snow cleaning day and remember how. So I threw new bedding down over everything and called it good. Here are some pictures. Oh and one of the roosters frostbite decided to thaw and peel today. Blood all over. Cleaned him up and put some Vaseline on it. It was all I had. He seems happier now.

Our Backyard Mix Phoebe laying an egg. She was actually doing her egg song at this moment.

Evening all. Some chickens were out today and a decent egg day. Maybe a couple shy of 30 including another blue green egg.

I was hoping to scoop poop boards today but ended up at MiL house for birthday dinner. It was a good time. Time to tuck in bed with a dog heater and a good book I just started.

I was right it is raining.
Hopefully this wind calms down so I can actually fall asleep, and get sleep so I don't fail my geometry final!

I've spent the last hour just trying to post on here. Every time there is a video ad on the top of the page, this box simply doesn't work. Frustrating!

Holm - If you watch Ebay, you can pick up that same 1502 GQF Sportsman for under $500 shipped. The egg trays will cost extra of course and that guy's didn't even have the bucket system that sits above so you don't have to add water daily. His price is what you can pick up a brand new model for (maybe even higher if you watch for deals). If you really want hatching capacity, I'll sell my 600 egg capacity Leahy Redwood.

Lol no I don't want Brahmas... We had some from Mark Peterson. Gorgeous birds, but ate like horses, required LOT space, and weren't productive at all. Ma has about 15 of her standard cochins to breed from this spring to carry on that tradition....
