Surviving Minnesota!

Well the old laptop died . So here we go again setting up a new one . I hate transferring stuff .

BC I got a Raintree catalog . Interesting stuff in there . Like Baby Cakes thornless blackberry rated zone 4 . New and pricey at about $20 each . Might be worth a try in zone 3 . May also produce a fall crop in areas without hot summers . Not sure if your summers are long enough for a fall crop to ripen . If they will you could maybe get a fall crop even if the canes froze on preventing the summer crop .
They have named Juneberries . Some large berries even . Canadian bred for fruit production . They also have a red seedless grape hardy to zone 4 . You could lay the vines on the ground and cover for winter . Hey they could maybe make it without that . Worth a try . Yes I am an enabler .

Emorical youre killing me

I feel like I have lurked and chatted enough that I can let my TRUE personality shine without risk of being tarred and feathered and ran out. Just think....my DH has to live with this daily...and when we go over to my folks' my dad and I are basically a standup comic routine....

Did a chick photo shoot today. Will post pics tonight

Currently waiting on these two to start laying. They are probably 17 weeks now so it'll be 3-4 more weeks I think. And look they have Pea combs! :thumbsup

EMorical you have found your chicken soul sisters and brothers it seems. You and MinnesotaNice have that good witt about you.

I have a Chicken and Dumpling Recipe buried in here. It comes from my Norwegian/Swede Mother who got it from her German Mother In Law. I'll see if I can find the post. Mom didn't write it down for me (the whole soup) but I learned watching her and did write down the dumpling part of it. Mine are dense and chewy (No air pockets for me, thank you) So good....

I should get a pot of that going this weekend. Sounds good actually.

Oh believe me everyone on here is equally weird!

Come to think of it I think I posted it on the other "Minnesota!" Thread. It's been that long. I will get my poo in a pile tonight and sit down and type it out for this thread. Right now I need to go pick up my Hoopsters from their Practice.

As Arnold said so well, "I'll be Back."

Ivie what kind of hen is she again? Is she production hen?

All the Illini are laying. The latest blue pullet, Hattie has an olive egg like her sister. I'm wondering if you'll all throw me a post about what you're charging egg customers for free range chicken eggs. I'm waivering between $3.50 or $4.00. In the grocery store a farmer has his eggs going for $3.99. I think those birds are probably well cared for but the yolks suggest he might not be getting them much for greens... Like my girls get. Shout out what you think I should charge. Vital farms (Texas/California) charge over $5 in Target stores. Their hens on pasture.

I sell mine for $3/dz. They go quicker than the girls can lay them. Family, of course, is free. I don't think it would be difficult to get $3.50 or $4.

Come on.. Don't dissuade him.. Mn Nice and I are planning a great Horsey wedding for him, with Mr T as the ring bearer...

Yes, it'll be very exciting! As long as Mr. T doesn't try to fornicate with a church pew everything should go well.

Dumplings a la Conway .... The night crowing has ceased 100%.

I have one more little rooster that gets to decide his fate...so far he has been quite pleasant to me....I think he knows

Ha hah! That's awesome! I'm going to try that dumpling recipe. Dumpling making is quite an art.
