Surviving Minnesota!

I forgot to mention to my Minnesota friends

If you want some toads and do not have a way to incubate them just let me know and I will throw them in the incubator for you. I just want others to see if they like them as much as I do, and get me a back up source of genes incase I lose my flock to something.

PLEASE someone take some!!

I think Klop needs some!

My little phone app says we have 35 degrees right now. May go as high as 41 today. I'LL TAKE IT!!!!

I did not let out my little chickie poos out of the run today. With the eagles being around and them not knowing what to do in snow....I think it would just not be wise. Those aerial preds have our number right now. With Dixie and Loretta being lost last summer...it's just what I need to do until we get proper chicken footing out there (grass and woods without snow). They have half a chance being camoed up with the darker colors. Right now with the exception of the Lavender show very well in the snow. And this new crew is very tentative on snow.

Jerry I'm fascinated with the saw mill. I don't know what it is about it, but I love watching stuff like that. I told Klop that with his wood splitter and it's the same with this wood mill. Now you just need to make a bunch of Ship Lap! LOL.

Good Morning..

I am not sure if this counts as a win or not. I am having a "senior Night". I am awake but wish I was not.

I have a meeting at 8 in Becker, so I might be up for the day.

I have to confess, the Gray Cat does not like me. It has escaped. (2 days ago) I have placed it's food and milk inside a live trap, next to a cage on the floor containing the Orange Cat. OC loves me. GC loves me when I hold her but he does not trust me enough to get close to him. Last night I spend an hour laying on the floor of the pole barn "meowing" to the stupid cat. He would get 3 feet from me and them turn and run away.

He was crying most the time. When he would see me he would stop crying but not come any closer. He must not have been too afraid though GC sat and gave himself a cat bath while I laid there watching.

In chicken news, the Toad eggs are building. NO takers yet. I will even hatch them for someone.....

Otherwise they will have to leave the state.

I have decided to test for AI. I received the testing material from the state yesterday. I was not going to do it. The state Vet talked me out of it (kind of). She told me if they find certain strains fo AI in the birds they have to destroy the entire flock. It is a risk I did not want to take, however, I am finding too many states that are refusing to take my birds or eggs because they are not AI clean. It is a PITA program, I need to take swaps from 30 chickens, all the turkeys and 30 guineas. At least a couple samples from each pen.

I am not sure how I am going to catch 30 guineas, (if I have that many). or all the turkeys and hold them while I swap them. Holm you should have came after I got the testing stuff!

I have moved the White Legbars to a different pen and coop. The coop they were in will be under going extreme vetting for rodents. I have not caught a mouse in my barrel since Mnchikmom's kids found those in it. I did feed the mice though a nice green candy bar.

I have not gotten any PC eggs from the hens in the pole barn cage. I know they have to be laying because WeinerHead has been doing his job. I assume they were eating the eggs. They now live in a small rollaway cage. I also have the SS inside, I was not getting enough eggs from them. I know some of those hens were eating eggs. The ones I had at New Ulm! I have one hen in with Cuddles and she leaves me a nice egg 2 out of 3 days and neither of them eat it. Her bad habit id pecking my hand if I do not feed, water of hold her fast enough. I honestly do not try to make lap chickens, but she wants to be held all day long.

I had no PC eggs even start to develop in the last hatch. Good News is I have PC eggs that are developing now, not a lot but some. I did not mark them as to the rooster then, I do now so I do not know if it is Weinerhead's chicks or the 3rd stringer I have outside. The Hen and 2 pullets outside are giving me 2 eggs a day.

I have not gotten an egg from the Marans since I changed roosters. The Marans are now in a rollaway cage to see what is happening there. I am finding a light colored underdeveloped egg now and then in the cage. I think one or both may have some kind of problem. While I like the Marans' I will not replace them , even though I like the dark eggs, if they are not layers. They are just production birds and not APA.

Coffee or not, is the question now, If I have coffee, I am up for the day, if not, there is hope of more sleep.

Wish Janet was fascinated by it . Maybe she will be more into once I get it to the lake . She is my straw boss and emergency room transporter . Says I am too old for this stuff . I tell her work keeps me alive . I like building things . Just do not want a real job anymore .

Morning peeps!
Ralphie let me ask a friend at work Monday if he wants some toads. He has been talking about getting meat birds for a couple of years. He has about 30 or so layers right now.he lives in rush city.
They are crornish cross and what again? Can they fit through a regular chicken door? (That question is for me) I'm kicking around getting a trio from you, just to keep for you, not eat. I can understand you wanting some off the farm, especially if they will destroy your whole flock if an AI is detected. Since mine are pets, I wouldn't mind a trio, as long as they can fit through the chicken door. Lol
