In school too, there are hardly any Windows. The ones I can see out of are in the hallways and it makes me want to go outside, it's so sunny, and I know it's warm. Darn school.

I have been outside pretty much all day of course! I made a corner of the large coop into a home for Ruby. She has a dog kennel for a nest box, her own food and water and sight to the other 11 chicks that reside in the coop in that run. I want her to get used to this flock. Her other flock beats her up too much. Besides Tom always wanting to piggy back and tearing her back apart and the top joints of her wings, there are a couple other chickens that go after her. To the point that she does not flock with them and trys to stay in the coop where they aren't. She has an apron on, hopefully her back will heal and she seemed pretty happy when I gave her a happy place to be. Yet she will have company too and in a couple weeks, one night, I will open up the coop. But she seemed depressed before this. Could she be partially broody? Either she is traumatized so badly by the abuse or maybe broody, or maybe ill (?) that she has not laid in a couple of weeks. And she wants to be in the nesting box. She came out to eat and drink a short time ago.

Incredibly Gilda, the BPR, is becoming very sweet and docile. She follows me everywhere. Doesn't talk so much and is companionable.

Construction debris came to the dumpster this afternoon. Several small pieces (i.e., 42" x 55" or there about) of plywood arrived and a steal - a 48" x 58" shower stall base that is screwable. Plywood will be attached to the sides and top and a vent in the front and back and a chicken door on one side. Cut a hole for a nesting box to one side. Fasten the plywood to a pallet for a floor; mount the pallet on some 2 x 4's screwed together to lift it off the ground and walla! I will put in a foundation of the cement blocks about 8 to 10' dug into the ground and the fencing under it to help make it critter proof. Another six birds will have a new home this next winter.

I will learn how to do all this - I think I have most of it thought through pretty well.

Ouch. I have worked hard allllll day and I grabbed a Reds to drink while I watched some Chicken T.V. Ruby has her own special place now and her gray, dried up comb and waffles are deep pink again. Amazing. Rosi came along looking for her so I added her to the space and enlarged it and they are both happy and content. RIR that flock together. I think I have found a solution. 4 x 5 so they are in a nice space. Anyway, I sat there enjoying my beer and t.v. and when I picked up Rosi I turned around and wacked my head on the run roof. I will not repeat what I said - it was nasty. I and bled. So I figured that was good for another Reds because it hurt! It doesn't hurt anymore.

Tom keeps checking up on Ruby and Rosi. He is down to three hens now and seems to know it. Gilda, BPR like himself, and he NEVER goes after her, and two ISA's - one a little beat up - making her an apron.

The eleven new chicks have a space that is 8 x 5 and for a while that is plenty large for them as it is 6' tall also and they have the coop that can handle them easily - there will be some moving around eventually.

Planted alot of seed today. I figure it will be ten days before it thinks about showing its little tops anyway. Ten more days will bring remarkable weather and if not, I will cover it with black garden fabric to keep it warm.

Okay this is the Rapunzel Building I have referred to.
The large chicken coup is between the Rapunzel Building and the garage. You can see the tip of the small chicken coup
just past the grill on the truck. The dumpster I complained about sits right next to the small coup/run. That is Abbey in the picture.

Ruby and Rosi in their new aprons. Can you see them?

Tom with his three hens I will let him flock with at this time.
Do your chickens live in the Rapunzel building?
