Surviving Minnesota!

Hey all! Thought I would pop in and let you all know that I'm not dead and haven't fallen of the the face of earth!

I've been very busy with house selling and working on building a new garage/shop on the farm, hectic time at work and other things in life I have lost my BYC habits. I miss chatting with you all and hope you are all well. I don't think I will have time to read back as I honestly don't even know how far behind I am. Would love to get an update on anything important I have missed. In my local news:
My broody hatched 5 and they are doing well
My 8 classroom hatches are growing like weeds. 4 reds, 2 yellows, 2 blacks. Most show subtle barring meaning Conrad is probably the daddy.
My Sussex are nearly fully grown and gorgeous. The boys are just starting to crow. Haven't done a count recently to guess how many boys but there are a few.
My 40 broilers just hit 9 weeks old but aren't ready yet. I've been feeding less and lower protein like ralphie preaches, but they are healthy and growing well. I am starting to increase feed and they will be ready in 2 weeks. I am hoping for some 10+ pounders. I should weigh a few tonight to see how they are coming.

The rest of the flock is well.

can't help myself, they are so darned cute

Oh no! Did she fall off?
I assume so because this morning I found her just hobbling around with 2 broken legs. I am not to disappointed because she was one of the Asian Blues that Hoover's messed up and sent us extra, and she was the meanest of them all. So maybe a blessing in disguise......or Karma struck her too.

One of my young SS passed away overnight/yesterday morning. DH found her in the corner of the coop and he figured she was just sleeping in. True story....that is my husband. I couldn't detect anything concerning when I looked her over. I did notice she wasn't constantly running with my other little ones on Sunday. But she still seemed fine. I suppose this stuff just happens and that's the way it is.

This is a reach I'm sure, but is there any possibility she could have gotten shock from all of the rain and thunder sunday night? At one point, my house was shaking for almost 10 seconds. Even I was freaked out.

My guess would be absent any other reasons a congenital birth condition that just surfaced. It happens. As I have said before 21 days is not a long time for an egg to become a living functioning creature, with 9 months people still have birth defects that kill them. With only 21 days of development it is amazing there are not more.

Okay Siggy. I have just got to jump on and say (instead of lurking) I must, I have to, I gotta say that Ralphie must be right. You simply have to be on the underside of 60 IF you say you are gonna live forever. Good song by the way. And you are right to say that Ralphie does not look a day over 30. Actually about 29 I would say wouldn't you Ralphie, you handsome, charming young man!
