Surviving Minnesota!

Wow lots has been happening! Sorry to hear of the loss Ralphie. Welcome to the thread Twins.

We successfully shingled our house in between rain showers on Saturday. Oh well my nephews had a great time playing in the water puddles while their parents worked. We had a record egg production day on Saturday....7 eggs....one was a triple yolker. My yard is an absolute mess we had 3 campers in the back yard and 2 skidloaders helping with the work. The ruts are 2 -- 3 inches deep. I will take the ruts any day just to be done shingling. I will have to see what kinds of pictures my husband has on his camera to show everyone.

Yesterday I found out our dear family friend Ewald died. He was a humble man that had a passion for the outdoors and making the world a cleaner better place. At age 93 he shot his last deer while hunting with his grandkids and at his age 94, I went pan fishing for Sunnies and Crappies. I will never forget, "Are you with just for the extra limit or are you actually going to catch fish?" What a guy he was...almost like a second grandfather to me and my kids.

Hello everyone, glad to recognize a few names still since I've last been on this site. This is a new account however.

My "update" might give away who I actually am.

Since the gf and I have bought our first flock last spring we have survived the winter, kept our flock healthy and safe (haven't lost a bird yet.) We went from 17 to 43 birds due to 4 mind you 4 broodies. Most of the pullets are spoken for thankfully and are getting ready for pickup (1 week out.)

Thd rooster I picked up from Erlibrd is doing wonderful and has been the nicest roo we could have asked for. Hasn't been aggresive towards anyone and keeps a watchful eye over his girls.

Farming has been going strong and we have just wrapped up our wheat harvest. Everything is in the bins and ready to be moved this winter.

This spring the gf and I bought goats. 6 doe Boer goats(mine aka the money makers) and 2 pygmies(hers aka the cute and playful ones.)

We recently bought the neighbors property adjacent to ours and planning on planting alfalfa there this fall. Our home is called Oakridge Ranch. I wanted to get pigs so we could call Chicken Bacon Ranch but the gf isnt on board with that yet

oakridge, I think your location gives you away? Your girlfriend needs to forget all the bad rap pigs get and experience them for herself. If you have a few they are no more work than other animals, and they are really very clean. The mud wallow thing is when it is hot because they are unable to perspire to cool off.

The biggest positive is that bacon, ham and pork chops all taste so much better than goat!!!

Sorry for your loss, Sounds like he had a long great life.

I looked through the Audubon mushroom book plates twice. I DO NOT know for sure. I am guessing "Cleft foot Amanita"...
But that is a complete guess.
x2 on some Amanita. They rise out of a "sack" which you can see the remains on the stem and a bit of it scaled on the cap. I would say Poisonous.

Ralphie, our transport driver is not a club member and is from Belle Plain, so he released the birds and then went to his home. We meet just south of Bruno to register our birds and place them in the shipping crates. Then one of our members meets the transport driver in Hugo from where he drives the birds to the release site.
We have four races left in our young bird race season. Albert Lea, Northfield, Fairmont & Mitchell, SD.

Most people on here have probably never heard of Bruno,Mn?
Ed: Aren't you worried the birds will divert and get hung up eating on the Corn Palace? Too much temptation there in Mitchell.

I don't think I've heard of Bruno...you are correct.

Or Oakridge or whatever....LOL. Missed ya!

Ralphie: Today is a new day. I would leave it at that...but I will say that I'm so sorry to hear that PC roo passed away!!! oh bummer. I know he was one of your Pride and Joy birds. Shoot!!!! Any others of the PC's that are coming along/potential?

I depooped my poopy coop last night. Fresh bedding in the layer nests...as those birds seem to like to sleep there. However Junior and the Illini did roost on the 2 x 4 last night. I suppose it depends on how tired the old biddies are and if putting up a fight is worth it...?
This flock seems to be flocking up. New ones hanging out with the old ones. Junior does not know squat though...and I know he is suffering by a comparison. I watched a family or whatever of 4 hawks soar over and he did not put out any call. I did the call. **twirl*** June and Patsy hit the deck-literally (they were on the deck rail)- and Junior and the Illini ducked under the deck a little bit. Hopefully they'll recognize the ones to watch for. Just before some gull like birds had flown over and we admired them. But then I saw the hawks and they stuttered their flight a bit eye-balling my new meat on the lawn and deck....I knew those 6 need to learn what's what.

Lunch break . Trying to figure out my loader tractor problem . It only raises . Even raises a little in lower position . Tilt only goes down . So I was told to switch hoses to other coupler . I did that and problem stayed the same . So I suspect the directional valve .
