Surviving Minnesota!

Hmmm You know spending the summer at the lake I could maybe do a few ducks . What ya think BC . I already know what Ralphie thinks . Train them to walk to the lake and then back at dusk . Oh the neighbors are in for a treat . Be like the Clampet's spending the summer .

Wow, didn't have time to read yesterday... 145 posts later! phew!

My Golden comet is back to laying only one hard shelled egg a day, yey! those 2 softshell eggs a day, no good. I won't get another golden comet. She is a lovely bird, like a tall skinny dancer, very delicate and graceful. But all those wasted eggs this summer

They should not breed them to lay more than 1 egg a day. of course, she may have just been an accident. she just doesn't have the calcium to cover 2 eggs a day. Getting some nice eggs from her now though that she is only laying once a day. Of course, she is the only one out of 5 who is still laying, the rest are in different stages of molt. Won't see an egg out of them until spring.

Has anybody taken cattle panels and made a tunnel out to the chicken coop for the winter? I'm kicking it around. My DH would not want to deal with it... but....
I have and I love it! I have a 2"x10" frame of pressure treated boards. I am working on a new wood frame for the ends that is more stable. You need to have a center support down the middle at the top to hold its shape and give it the right support.

The ducks probably wouldn't create any traffic jams walking the road to the lake and back Jerry but why not enjoy the wild water fowl already there? You buy one bag of corn dedicated to wild mallards you'll have all the duck tv you can stand without slippery slope down to the lake or duck manure cleaning. Which I understand is 10x more 'fun' than chicken poop.

I need to see pictures. I just can't picture it in my mind..

Mom used to feed them . I have not seen them much . Lots of geese now I have thought of a game or fish type feeder with timer Just trying to get Ralphie going . Neighbors make sure the geese spend their flightless molt on the bigger lakes They make a mess of mowed lawns They love to graze . I will give the neighbors enough to talk about as it is .

Ralphie no need for Swede signatures . My great grandmother was a Swede born and raised in Sweden . My great Grandfather was a Swede citizen . That part of Germany was Sweden when he was born and raised . Sweden was just across the bay there on they baltic . The young men of both countries seem to have visited the girls across the bay . None were as pure German or Swedish as they thought they were .
