Came into the coop to RJ and Buckbeak fighting. I don't care if they fight sd long as no one gets hurt. Here they Must have been fighting almost all day. Buckbeak almost got his jugular cut... he should be glad he is faster then RJ or he would be a dead rooster with how long RJs spurs are...

I only turned the lights on in January. I let them have a rest until then even though they did not rest. I actually think a bunch are molting. I was not expecting it because they will not be 1 until May. But there are quite a few with ragged looking backs and feathers on the floor so I think it is that. I thought about not doing lights but then our pastor who is the real reason my husband even let me get chickens said that we buy the chickens for eggs. They are red-sex links ISA I think and their job is to lay for 18-24 months and then they stop anyway or at least decrease greatly so lights on is not a problem for those birds as that is what they were bred for. We are building another coop this summer and the layers will go in one and the others in another spot where I wont put lights on. I use a car battery hooked to LED RV lights. Just 2 of them.

Ralphie, If you ever decide Ed needs a new home for retirement, i may be interested in an older gentleman who would be gentle with my ladies and nice to me and DH. Does he attack dogs? My dogs don't really pay attention to the chickens. But we all share the same space.

I'm on vacation today. Scrapbooking tonight and tomorrow, have to get my stuff ready. I may also make some valentine cards to mail out to my mom, daughter and niece. Fun stuff!
