Surviving Minnesota!

Well, they are all alive and kicking. The ones who drank the Epsom salt mix got cleaned out, yuck. But their combs felt normal and flat. The two SLW's that didn't drink both had sligtly puffy combs. But that is"normal"for one of them (morticia) we'll wait and see about Mother. I did double up on the ACV this morning. As well, thanks! I'll be at a scrapbookng retreat all day so won't be able to check them until 5 or so tonight. Hopefully every thing is fine. Seems like this sort of thing happens when ever I make plans to be gone. That's it, I'm never making plans again! Have a great day every one!

I planted some tomato seeds indoors the other day . Early I know but I had the urge . I will pot them up to large pots in time . Hey BC and Ralphie I am going to order some improved service berries /June berries . Some of those claim 3/4 fruit . I remember someone said something about SS with rose or cushion combs . Hmm my pullet is in with a silver duckling Leghorn with a rose comb . I guess I could set a few . Ralpie could try PC .

The Juneberries are rated zone 3-9 . These are Canadian selections . They are a commercial crop there . I found these in Raintree Nursery catalog . The Alnifolia species seems to have the best production and size . I am thinking of the Northline as it suckers profusely ( think free plants ) and Smokey for 3/4 inch fruit .
Two of my sisters are trying to start a pick-your-own with these. My one sister also has a nursery business and sells the plants. I could ask her what she sells them for if you guys are interested. She usually sells potted plants but if she knows someone will buy them right away she will sell them as bareroot which would be cheaper. I think she sells them for more than you where saying but I'm sure they would be bigger, healthier plants than what would be sent through the mail. I believe she has 8 or 10 different species, Smokey for sure and I think the other two also.

I think you have passed the phase to worry about. Enjoy your day.

I wanted to get that in before Jerry got his in.

Cluckies good luck on the chickens. I have no idea, I doubt you "killed" them. They are lot

I would guess chickens are a lot tougher than we think. They usually come through these little mishaps just fine.

Ivie Have you checked for Mites, fleas or other little critters? Poor little kittens, that highway is a true "roadkill alley". I doubt I have ever driven it without seeing a freshly killed something on it.

CAT FIGHT!!!!!!

She did erlibrd, she has always said you were evil and wicked. No idea why. She is just "catty"....

Ivie Look how erlibrd jumped on that cute innocent statement. She is evil!!!!

That's the way I've always heard that, "No rest for the wicked" I thought she was just trying to be nice. No need for that I can take good natured ribbing without getting my bloomers in a knot

I candled eggs for Tuesday hatch. I pulled 63 eggs! I saved around 30. So disappointing. My hatch at best now has:
6 Doms
3 toads
1 maran ( which is doubtful)
5 Yokies
5 Polish
16 legbar
Some of those I could not see through so I left them in. Very disappointing.

A lot of them were quitters. Most just never started. A lot of the polish had the red blood ring.
I will be boiling the throw aways today and squishing and crushing them for the butcher rooster and guineas.

Holm should be on his way here today. I talked to him last night. Ethel Jr is moving. Along with another red-blue bronze.

I set eggs yesterday. LOTS and LOTS of cracked eggs, that I did not notice until the pre-incubation candling. I also noticed a lot of yolks were broken or air sacs wobbly. It is just hard getting good eggs this time of the year. Lights or not.

Well, time to get more coffee.....

Ivie don't pay attention to what ralphie says he's a trouble maker

Morning . Ralphie won because I am sick . I was up at 4 . Tried to make coffee without any grounds . Yeah I am a little off today . It was 10 degrees at 4 and15 now . My social time this week got me sick . Bit me it did . You think I should know better during cold and flue season .

I think that is waaaaayyyyyy more that went into this then what the day requires. erlibrd - all is well on this end. Wicked? Weary? Well there you have it! Be weary of the wicked. How is that? Or be wickedly weary. IDK.

Ralphie - it did not work this time.

Hey Ralphie I have a long honey-dew list that needs to be accomplished. If Judy cannot keep you out of trouble I am sure that there are a few things I could hand over to be done to keep you out of trouble.

I need to get out to my flock.

I am waking up at 3:00 every morning for awhile now. It will change again. When it happened this morning I sighed and got out of the horizontal position. Scrubbed floors and then sat at my computer. erlibrd gets up early. No one else was around. I went back to bed around 7:00 and slept for about an hour. Ugh!

Thursday I was reading about microwave ovens. I thought we needed a new one as some of the numbers on the pad won't work. DID U KNOW that the Soviet Union banned microwaves in 1976. Nope, no microwaves if you visit the Soviet Union. DID U KNOW that France has banned plastic? Actually, it looks like they have banned anything that will not break down in the heat of the home compost pile. And the commercial compost piles heat up more than the residential so they are taking it further than what could be necessary to be safe. Even plastic wrap. I was just skimming that article about France. The Microwave one, and it was only one, just confirms what I have always thought and heard. I have never cooked in a microwave. I wonder what other countries are practicing. Kind of interesting.
