Surviving Minnesota!

Hey Ralphie I have a long honey-dew list that needs to be accomplished. If Judy cannot keep you out of trouble I am sure that there are a few things I could hand over to be done to keep you out of trouble.

I need to get out to my flock.

I am waking up at 3:00 every morning for awhile now. It will change again. When it happened this morning I sighed and got out of the horizontal position. Scrubbed floors and then sat at my computer. erlibrd gets up early. No one else was around. I went back to bed around 7:00 and slept for about an hour. Ugh!

Thursday I was reading about microwave ovens. I thought we needed a new one as some of the numbers on the pad won't work. DID U KNOW that the Soviet Union banned microwaves in 1976. Nope, no microwaves if you visit the Soviet Union. DID U KNOW that France has banned plastic? Actually, it looks like they have banned anything that will not break down in the heat of the home compost pile. And the commercial compost piles heat up more than the residential so they are taking it further than what could be necessary to be safe. Even plastic wrap. I was just skimming that article about France. The Microwave one, and it was only one, just confirms what I have always thought and heard. I have never cooked in a microwave. I wonder what other countries are practicing. Kind of interesting.

What you need is a NuWave hot plate! We have 2 and they are amazing. The pans are also amazing you dont even need bacon grease when cooking! Granted They will Never be as a good as cast iron but they're pretty close.

I think that is waaaaayyyyyy more that went into this then what the day requires. erlibrd - all is well on this end. Wicked? Weary? Well there you have it! Be weary of the wicked. How is that? Or be wickedly weary. IDK.

Ralphie - it did not work this time.

Isn't the NuWave like cooking? I know it is fast and almost purchased it once. I normally just (past tense now) reheated my tea or coffee in the microwave.

It is just for cooking but it's definently worth the money. We only hsd the 2 hot plates and a microwave oven for the first 7 months in our houde

@I Love Layers - she's mostly just old and mare-ish. I've had her my whole life, but she's not really the type of horse we need. My husband is not a fan of her, so it has kinda come down to being an annoyance between us.... He's got this funny notion about "animals that need to make their place on the farm" and she basically just sits around and bosses the bulls. I've contemplated selling her on and off the last few years and even had her sent to a trainer for some tuning up in July. But makes me sad to think she might end up somewhere "unsavory"

(aka headed to dog food camp). I'm not delusioned by love enough to think she's worth a ton - the market for older grumpy mares is pretty saturated haha - but PM me if you want some more info or photos!!! No need to hyjack the chicken threads with my horse ramblings

I made it last summer but essentially you substitute in flat guiness instead of distilled water to make the lye solution and then whatever oil mixture you want to use (soap calculator needed for correct amounts of everything) and because beer and lye smell like h-e- double hockey sticks I add honey fragrance oil. Oh I think I added some ground oatmeal to that batch too. (Oatmeal stout)

Being a huge fan of both soaps and oatmeal stouts.....you have now, unfortunately, piqued my interest!!!!! I need another hobby like a need another chicken

Do you happen, by chance, to have any of those bars left? Could I buy one and try it?!!!

I think making soap would be so cool. I have a bad feeling I would botch it though and burn all my skin off.

I never thought of this until reading the recent posts. How do you know how strong home made lye is?

If you're going to make soap, I think you should make it all!

I got my second appletini egg today. Frozen and cracked.

It is 29 degrees here but feels chilly/cold. I have been in and out about 10 times to try and get good eggs. I am still losing at that.
