Surviving Minnesota!

Well yesterday I butchered my last extra rooster. A litt 1/2 bantam 1/2 standard. What a waist of time! He will feed about half a person. Was almost tempted to let the cats have him...

Ralphie my little Legbar was still alive today. Still up in that tree though.

Got my first BO egg last night too! I might have to slip that in the incubator with the eggs I set two days ago....

Ralphie, I think I forgot to mention that you may not be doing as bad as it seems with the early incubation. Unless you have ideal conditions it is not as easy as many think to work against mother nature. A high percentage of viable eggs is probably not going to happen?

I agree. I am just trying to get some "show birds" for myself and a few select others right now.

When MnChickMom was here the other day, we watched Weinerhead do his job, So he is one step ahead on Ed. I really think you had him as a lapper. When I pick him up and move him or do whatever I need to, he never fights and just sits in my arms.

I think it is time for you to come clean on your Rooster hugging activity...

He is actually more people friendly than the hens are.

Maybe Ralphie needs to come clean on his secret AI rooster taming method ...

Heading to Ellen's funeral right now. 3 eggs already none from the cochins when i was down there. I really want to hatch some of Rues and Gary's but nott sure if its worth it with her being a pullet. Or if I should just wait til May and hopefully have some eggs from April and one other hen also.

I have to disclose the first comment out of her mouth on the way home.

12 year old daughter: "I just can't believe Wienerhead actually mated the hen while I was there to see it, now hopefully he did his job correctly and picked a hen that throws females."
10 year old son: "Well it's not like you were there (Ralphies) this morning taking care of his manhood....like you did to all those poor bulls."

The stories that go down in a farm kids car. I just roll my eyes.

Disclaimer: Earlier Saturday morning we were casterating bulls.

They first picture is where ralphies chickd spent the first night. Poor things had a heated tote to sleep in.

The second picture is after my hubby made a coffin just like ralphie because it seemed to hold the heat so much better than conventional insulation. The coffin is really just a liner in a cage we already built but because ralphie had one...my husband thought we needed one. I have since put a corner restriction in.
