Surviving Minnesota!

I did candle them. 7 didn't make the cut. There's one that I wasn't sure if I should pull or not - I think it may be a late quitter, but I wasn't sure enough to pull the plug. I can't figure out which one is stinking up the place. I didn't notice the smell until I kicked the humidity up, so maybe the bator needs a deeper cleaning.

I filled the usual tray with water to get the humidity up to 65% and it brought it up to 90%. It didn't waiver much so I took out the eggs and filled up a smaller tray. It still kicked it up way too high. My house hasn't changed much - I dry hatched around 30% humidity the other 18 days. Once again I took out the eggs and am now using a small bowl with water and adding wet towels to keep it at that 65-70%. I really should have done that in the first place. That or hatched them in cartons like you do, so I'm not handling the eggs so much.

Wow....

I had an egg that "Leaked" onto an egg under it, and stunk the place up. I took out the leaker and it still stunk, I did not find the other one until it was really smelly, I wiped it off and eventually the world stopped stinking.

My wife can smell a bad a mile away I think . I keep my Bator in the basement . She will say you got a bad egg . So I go check and do not smell it till I open the door . One of her super powers I guess . That and chewing my rear .

I bet she smelled it coming a week before it got there!

Kind of cold here but no wind for once. 1F and feels like -14F.

The birds are all doing good, I think I have a rogue EE, or a pheasant that is ok with walking into the barn

. I forgot to take down the new bulb for the birds since the indoor lights aren't strong enough and heat lamps use to much. I think I got a 120 watt halogen flood. I have to write up a business plan today and tomorrow

, I would do it in word processing when I'm done with my assignment if my teachers wasn't a crazy female dog who thinks that you shouldn't do anything other then 10 minute assignment.

I usually can, too. Definitely a super power =)

When I took out the bad eggs yesterday, I noticed a few were cracked. I still didn't notice a smell at that time, but who knows. I'm just glad they didn't blow up. Yuck.

There's my boy! Mr. T is looking mighty handsome! Your Bucks are looking good, too! I hope you get some beautiful babies from them! Your one lonely pekin duck cracks me up =)

Got my "little" birds in bedand am going to get their pen set up after church tomorrow. Ralphie I never got pics of the hens yet but am gonna get lots tomorrow!

Buff Orps? I have two Buff Orp crosses - both are great layers and annoyingly friendly. Lavender Orps are on my list for next year....

Well - hello Chickeners . . . . busy, busy morning so far. We were suppose to get updates from 12mbyt to 50 today. Its Windstream - Ralphie you understand. We woke up to no internet. I called at 7, waited 20 minutes for a voice to answer. At 9:30 we are back at 12. Seems they did the change at the 'office.' Which I nicely told them was strange. Eventually, long story short, a tech determined we had the wrong modem for 50. That they were suppose to have mailed us the correct modem. At the end of this whole ordeal he checked and was told that in Minnesota they must come to the house to install the modem and re-wire with new CAP 5 cable. Long short, back at 12, updated firmware and the internet is moving pretty fast.Still need to take down network to reinstall Netflix. Later with that.

Been reading ALOT about chicken health. Vent gleet, lice, mites, prolapse etc.

Ralphie - did ya sleep last night?

erlibrd, BC - feeling better? Did you do what Jerryse is doing? How is that working Jerry?

Time to go check my birds, fold clothes, clean the floors and stools . . . . no rest for the WICKED

He is looking good isnt he? I cant wait for babies either! I really really really like the Buvks and how theyre looking. I SWEAR THAT DUCK THINKS SHE IS A FREAKIN TURKEY! Mr. T likes her more than he does his old hen Mabel! Mabel was beating up the duck the other day and Mr. T full on attacked and chased her off for it! And that is not the first time!

I love these Orps! They are friendly but not always under your feet friendly.... yet... lol

I'm feeling better chest wise and cough wise. Less congestion and nose blowing. But all of a sudden I have swollen lymph nodes along my left jaw. It is ridiculously annoying and painful. This getting old thing is for the birds. Stuff going wrong all the time.

We have basketball tonight. Games for both kids.
