Surviving Minnesota!

I am alive.  Thanks for still thinking of me!!

Life has changed drastically here for us.  We had a bundle arrive.  This bundle is so very special.  She has been diagnosed with Trisomy 13. http://trisomy.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Trisomy-13-Facts2-5-15.pdf   We were told she wasn't going to make it or not for very long.  Well, she is still here 16 weeks later.  We take each day moment by moment and cherish EVERY second we have.  She is a strong and determined little babe.  She has no medical help except a feeding tube in her nose.

We are in calving season here.  Expecting our first one today.  In the next 3 months should be about 12 calves in all.

The chickens took about 3 months off of laying but have started again.  We are getting about 5-7 a day.  Have to say I love our fresh farm eggs so much better than store bought.

RHETTS:ya!

Congrats on the new baby! You'll be in my prayers :hugs

Sounds like you expanded your herd?! Best of luck with calving! We are gonna be moving the cows in to the calving corral around the 9th of March. The vet said all the cows were along 5-5 1/2 months in November so when we start calving it's going to be busy!

Rhetts it is good to hear from you. As you can tell we missed you. Thank you for taking the time to let us know what is happening in your busy life. Congratulations for having a baby to hold in your arms and sorry about the difficulties. Thanks for sharing the news - what's her name. You have been a busy ma ma.

And good for your farm - a new calf.

I have some fuzzy butt pictures. This is my first baby Polack. It is so cute, so small and so different, it looks deformed. I assume that is the open skull. His or her face looks like it is on crooked, I had 5 hatch and 4 were spoken for, so I have this guy left. This is a Holm's size photo bomb.....:gig
Oh my gosh Ralphie that little Polish is cute! I can never just post one or two pictures! I take too many pictures and love posting pics of my birdies.

JEEZ are the yotes going crazy tonight. Annoying things.

Ralphie your turkey hens are already calling in wild turkeys! There was a set of turkey tracks coming from behind the house through the yard and all around the run.

Ralphie I am already having a senior moment. Is this Blue Red Bronze hen Ethel Jr. or is the Rusty Slate Ethel Jr.?

Ethel Jr is the Blrue red Bronze. I think that one is a rusty slate, you will not be able to tell for sure until you see the offspring and can work the calculator backwards..HOWEVER with MR T as the father. Good luck with that...

They could both be Blue red bronze too...

I can't wait for these hens to start breeding! I really want to see some Mr. T babies! I think I am just gonna let my Cochins hatch out turkeys for me. One of my bantams started laying so I think she should be broody in the next few weeks.

The hen that you can't really see in the pic was covered in egg yolk the other day. I wonder if she laid and ate her egg or if someone laid and kicked their egg out of the nest and it became a tasty treat?
