Surviving Minnesota!

We still haven't gotten her in. 4 wheel drive stopped working and they aren't in the calving pasture so we can't get anywhere with all of the snow and hills. I suppose if we can't get her in by a few hours I'll have to go out on horseback and get her.

What a great day it ended up being 18 degrees no wind and the sun is out. I spend a couple hours catching up on things I could not get done when it was cold out. I started the crematory, JJ, that Toad and the hen from yesterday are now ashes to be spread somewhere.

I have decided my birds are a tad spoiled, when I come around they act starved. I thought maybe the feeders were plugged. Nope, everything is fine. The stuff that fell on the ground when I checked the feeders was great. The stuff in the feeders they did not want. I filled oyster cups and they ran to them to eat shells. None of the cups were empty, but I put something new in them so it must be good.

The inside birds went nuts when I topped off their feeders, rushed them. It was the same feed that had 4 seconds earlier, but all of a sudden it was edible.

I allowed Cuddles a congenital visit so he is happy, the hen, not so much...

Off to the big city of Elk River now.

Dad is runn8nt to town in the pickup with thr 4WD that doesn't work. If he makes it there i will be suprised... He is going to get some gas and a battery for our other pickup that we don't ever use in the winter since it barely runs in the summer sometimes... I'm stuck down in the yard watching for the cow just in case she comes up for water

Dead calf. She had it by herself. After my dad went to town to get the battery and gas he came back tried to start the pickup wouldn't start. So we went out with the tractor, barely made it up some of the hills. Found the cow, she had calved already and it was dead. Maximum 30 pounds and was not fully formed yet. My dad and I cant count and the calf was anywhere from 4 to 9 weeks premature most likely.

I checked my non fertile eggs again tonight and found one more TOAD egg. So I am up to 7 Toads and I think I found another Dom so that would make 8 Doms. There is one more I am questioning because it is so dark inside. One of the Dom eggs has a blood ring and the other two show no life. I still can't see much in the blues and olive eggs. I used a better light tonight. I'll just keep them in and see what happens next weekend.
