Im in the banana belt with Ralphie. It is terrible. Basically as far as I can figure it extends in a thin line from approx. Rogers to just north of Princeton. Any thing above or below this line seems to get harsher weather. As stated, somehow it is more temperate here...

We were missed by the violent storms. Just some branches and lots of water. Hubby is working in Forest Lake without power, they will be done today when the cordless tools run out of battery life.

Sounds like just north of the Banana Belt and just south of the Banana belt got hammered pretty good.

We just got a little rain as well...

Hello chickeners . . . . Went over to the Wisconsin side this morning to see a cousin in a nursing home. Traveled 97 on the way over. Since I used to inspect homes for storm damage I began noticing immediately the leaves in yards along the highway. Yep - they got a significant storm last night. There were some tree limbs down and a few trees along the way. In the banana belt it obviously rained but neither my DH nor myself woke up for anything so I would conclude that any severity skirted around the banana belt again. The banana and pineapple trees in the yard are looking well.
Went out to lock down the flock this evening about 9:15. And as I approached a hen called to me from the garage roof. She had gotten up and did not know how to get down. She is one of the Gold comets and they are very friendly. So I took out my ladder and got up on it to the edge of the roof and enticed her with some meal worms. She came right over. Wasn't too happy with me for taking her by her legs, upside down off the roof. Silly chickens. The eggs under the RIR should be chicks any time now. Still in wonder about what a wonderful broody she has been. Good experience for a first adventure. Now, after reading Jerryse post, I will make sure that mama and babies are together at night. Actually thinking about cleaning that little coop that I set up last spring as a hospital coop and transferring her into that and the two GLW secluded in the main coop to begin the process of integrating them into the flock. Then Mama and babies would have a safe place to be until they are older. Friday would be the first opportunity I have to follow through on that plan.

Hey all... Weather was terrible last night... No tornadoes but strong wind... Collapsed buildings and trees all over... 1 1/8 inch of rain... The huge pines in my run all fell... Along with many other trees on the property...

Morning everyone. Nothing here in the last week other then about 5 minutes of sprinkling rain.
We got the injectors finished yesterday, the pick up still made decent mileage into town and back. I think it averaged 23 which is about 1mpg down from previously. The added horsepower is impressive though, and kind of scary.
I set cochins eggs the other day and they should hatch on July 31. Is there a July 31?? Or Would it be August 1
Right now we're waiting for the fog to go down before we head out to put up hay. Tomorrow should be the last day of haying, we've made so little so far..

In my portion of the banana belt we got heavy winds and rain but no damage this time around. I have divots in the new grass again....

BC I had a J Depp moment but it was not J Depp.... We we touring the Queen Mary in LA and I was on the upper deck and looking around. I walked out the deck and down the stairs there was a skinny guy next to me, he said " Hi' and we small talked on the way down the stairs, Seemed like a nice guy but a tad more feminine in dress and manner than me, He was dressed to the 9s....

We turned the corner on the stairs and there were 500 women screaming and yelling as we turned the corner the guy smiled at me and kind of chuckled, I made some comment about always having that effect on women... and waved to the women... The guy said something like " Me too," and we laughed..

When we hit the landing security surrounded the guy and I figured maybe it wasn't me the women were screaming about...I found out later it was Richard Gere I was walking and talking too.. I am guessing the screaming was for him and not me...

So I might not have been MENSA in that case....

Not to belabor the banana belt query, but... are we talking a belt roughly across the state, or a small vertical-ish belt of area? Our new place is near the Nowthen/Ramsey border. Should I plan to grow bananas and pineapples??
