Surviving Minnesota!

How many of you on this thread have Cream legbars?

I am especially looking for those of you with Cocks, that would be willing to show them in Oct. They do not need to be perfect show birds, all they need is to not be "disqualified" We need 4 in each class to be shown. I only have 3 roosters, Mine are all winter trimmed. I am going to check with the Judge and see if she reads that as a disqualification or just a huge point deduction.

Thanks
A "trimmed" comb should not be a DQ but just docked points. It all depends on the judge though. I would guess with a breed that is just starting out like CLs that the judge would not dock to many points off

Ivie: Did you buy the Ryobi in Pink or something. Because let me tell you about "Momma's Tool Box". It is empty. Over the years it has been pilfered and looks pretty pathetic right now. I really need to go through the garages and set up the work benches. The way they should be. I would say that building the coop probably did put my tools out into the general circulation. I need to just recollect and keep them handy again. DS won a nice little hand tool kit a couple years ago at a banquet. So now we go down to his closet to raid that once in a while.

That little chick might have something wrong. It may help to put it under Momma. It might not. Imagine those birds on a busy farm. Where the Housewife is busy with other duties and the men are out in the fields. Mother nature is left to take care of things. No body is slighting you in the least. You've went above and beyond for chicks in the past and we all know this. Sometimes you just need to let go. (Hard to do) With chickens I've sort of done that. There are some obvious things that I know that are within my power to help. But if I'm at work or taking care of my kids. I can't do a vigil for a chicken all the time. I have done it and it usually doesn't pan out anyways. And I can't be in two places at once. So Ivie...I'm going to give you a break on this one as you should do for yourself too. :hugs

Ralphie! Holy buckets! That's alot of birds gone. I guess that's one way to get down in numbers. But of course the critters got the super shiny birdies.
I'm going to have a beautiful Welsummer Cockerel up for nabs. He is my New Hampshire Pullet's best friend. But I'm sure she will get over it.:D

I have not heard hide nor hair from Jerry. He is up with his Grandson. They probably have the cabin half up already. LOL. He brought up his incubator with about 200 eggs. I'm going to have to drive out there to see if he needs me to brood some cuddle fuzz chicks for him. Chick Sitter is my new gig if he'll let me.

BC - I bought it in my fav or ite - apple green. Let a guy get caught with an apple green tool - not happenin! Thanks for letting me off the hook. So Rosie has two chicks. I walked out this morn and one had jumped out of the coop - into the covered run. The other was chirping away up in the coop at the edge. Rosie was trying to take care of the one already down and was totally frustrated. I put them in the dust bathing area which will be perfect for them. Then I blocked it from the other hens. Rosie calmed right away. She has taught them to scratch and where ever I put the container of chick feed she drags it out to where she wants it, manages to tip it to get the feed out and then scratches. It gets mixed in with all the dust. Ugh!

Sorry for your losses Ralphie. I don't know how your setup is but is a two legged predator a possibility? Speaking of cream legbar cockerels I have a 36 week old that I need to find a home for. I have no space for him this winter this is him at 28 weeks _20170717_165057.JPG

Here you go Stearns County folks! Lol. What a mess this is. Maybe...

Ivie, apple green will be lovely on their tool belt lol.
I'm looking at two of my ameraucanas...even though roses in the face I'm not seeing pointy saddle feathers coming! I might have 3 hens instead of one... idk. I feel stupid now. Maybe will have jerry over to take a look.

I follow EMorical on instagram and only 2 posts these summer months. I'm sure they are busier than heck. I miss her photography and cute stories of monster token birds. Lol.

This just upsets me to the max! My sister and husband live across the road from Lang's. My niece and nephew cant be outside due to potential mink encounter. Their daycare is just a mile away and daycare kids can't go out to play. Now, my sister's dairy farm is impacted due to potential hazard to their dairy animals.

So I saw this today on Fresh eggs daily's feed on Facebook. I don't think I'm an architect. But I'm certain it IS rustic. Lol.

Wow.
Fantastic, you do have the most wonderful coop I've ever seen! Congrats!

Good Morning Chickeners . . . . Been reading your threads. Very fun. BC - I always liked the pictures of your coop - very creative. So remember the tractor coop my dnb made me for a gift and neither the DH or I or us together can budge it? That is the 4 x 8 coop and run that I have mentioned on here. It is parked, and used, for a few birds. Thank heaven I have it to separate Reggie and Copper.
So it needs some work. And I am making plans. And I like that eggplant color because it is the Egg Plant. I may steal that idea. Its not in plain sight of the traffic passing by so the DH may relax and enjoy that I do it more.
I was 'trying' to work on my present coop just a little on Friday and got so frustrated because of the tools my general contractor DH gives me to use simply do not work. After asking, after discussing, after trying diligently to be a good wife with terrible tools I went to Home depot on Saturday night and purchase a Ryobi kits with a drill, circular saw, and reciprocating saw along with a flash light. Those screws I was trying to insert on Friday zipped right in on Sunday!
Woot woot, new tools! Gotta love that!

Grats BC on being recognized as a National Coop designer!!!

Good luck on the Chicks Ivie...

My misery continues. I have been trying to get a little done each day. BUT my Mexican Water vacation continues, I have been done so long my back is out now. So it is flexeral and Tramadol for me and walking lie 112 year old...

I went to check on my birds and Neither Judy or my Mother noticed the guinea Gulag which had over 100 birds in it had only 4 left...Something got in and of course the cameras got bumped so noting shows. I am not sure if I will have any birds in a month at this rate. I moved some indoors to assure I keep the breeders. I cannot find a way anything got in, Judy walked around and said she coule not either..BUT I suspect her ability to notice chicken things beings she did not notice 96 missing birds...

I am going to lay another 4 ft piece of hardware cloth around the ground and bottom of the fencing again.

I am wondering if something is climbing the fence and going in through the netting on top. Very frustrating..

My Cream Legbar rooster had a limp when I looked at him, Untreated Bumblefoot... So I started treating him last night. He is inside now too.

I just wanted to say Hi, I am sounding too much like a downer to be allowed to type longer!..Have a good one..
I can be over in 20 minutes ralphie, say the word!

I am at a lose, I am really thinking a fisher with cubs. I have noticed or it has dawned on me I have no grey squirrels around here anymore. I had so many I was sending them to Squirrel heaven to help fill heaven with its quota...

Now I can find one. If my back was not out I would be fort Knoxing everything....

Also BC, Erli and the rest of you try not to judge me too hard but I am on the verge of locking my cats up, dogs up and using poison. In as safe a manner as I can. I simply cannot afford to lose this many birds. At just 10 bucks a bird..The Asian bird market price I am out a few thousand this year, not to mention the show birds I have lost. I was going to be shipping a dozen mature White legbars out of state, I had to cancel that order alone was $450.
just terrible!

Got my DNA results back, 68% scandinavian, 17% Eastern European, (Ill, maybe we are related ;)) 10 great Britain (wales, scotland, england) 2% western European. Could not be more surprised. Not about the swede, but my mom is suppose to be full blooded German. At me with 2 percent, ain't no way...
I have a strong genetic community in western sweden. Not surprised there. Both my grandparents' parents (all 4) were from there. Varmland. I know nothing about Eastern Europe. Time to do some studying up!
