Surviving Minnesota!

Deer flies and after that 4-5 inches Thursday night— Mosquitos!

The wild raspberries are in good order around here. I need to get some picking in but alas the deer flies...

Another boat day yesterday. We have been playing a lot on Saturdays. Nothing else you should do on a 90 degree day.

But today. Wow. Grade A get in your garden day ... because you aren’t going to melt kinda day. I’ve heard an overnight low of 50... good sleeping weather!

I have 4 partridge hens and 4 more pullets. I will only keep one rooster. The cockerel is out of the rooster and is 13 weeks... which one do I keep? The rooster is ok, but too red for my preference. Any thoughts are welcome.

Keep them both for a while longer. BUT lean towards the bottom one if he fills out. I am surprised you have that red of a rooster from Mike's stock. He is way too bright red for the judges to ever like him.

I posted this before I saw others said the same thing. sorry.

Perfect for isolation for a sick or naughty bird, or for transporting birds to sell, I could even use it to take my big fat cat to the vet. Thought you guys might like this idea if you need anything like this. .or build some to sell. :)
I have a much better keeper designed just for dux,

I do think my phone tends to show things a little brighterr than they actually are. Either way, he's become pretty red. This was my least favorite cockerel. I think he was the one I had to eye drop yolk to after hatch. Was the last to hatch, maybe I just took him out too soon after hatching.

Tfred what Ralphie has advised is good and particularly if you plan to show or sell birds to those who do. If however you are not interested in showing and not much interested in selling birds or chicks I would advise you choose birds which suit your personal taste. If you prefer the brighter color birds select for it. If you prefer those which are more of a brown shade then select for that.
Should you choose to get rid of the rooster in the photo, let me know. I might be interested in him.

Some of my favorite mutts I hatched out this year... All have nice peacombs and one walnut comb so should do good in our MN winters... Have some more red mutts but they are pretty plain...

1/2 Yokohama 1/2 Dominique... This one is pretty plain looking But I love her head... Not sure why...

The mid summer flowers are in full bloom! I will have more pictures tomorrow as the peach ruffled Lilly is about to open! Gardening/landscaping has always been something I enjoy... A lot of my time as a kid was spent in a garden planting/trimming and watering flowers lol

Beautiful!! And so very awesome that you enjoy those simple things that so many young people these days have refused or never had the opportunity to take interest in.
All 3 of our kids would rather live in apartments so they don't have any yard work whatsoever. . or animals to care for besides a cat or a dog or other small inside pet. :th
