I got my buck around 4:00pm yesterday. First time I saw him all I could tell was he was following a small doe, and I didn't have my rifle or a good pair of binoculars, and mistook him for a 3×3. When I got up to head back to the pickup I could see my dad waving his arms at me so I sat back down wondering "What in the heck is he doing that for". I evuntally made my way to the pickup where my dad said "What the heck is wrong with that one, it is a 5×5 whitetail!" So went back out on the same point from which I had seen the buck from minutes earlier. By time I got back to this spot he was on the move. I watched him jump over the fence onto one of our neighbors to chase a younger buck off, which was about the time my dad came over. My dad was positive that he saw him jump back on our side into the same brush patch the doe was in. So in a sweatshirt and coveralls, I positioned myself for a laying shot. About 15 minutes later, and me with cold elbows the doe came out of the brush and the buck followed. He kept following the doe to the fenceline walking with his butt towards me and I couldn't get a decent shot. Finally just before he jumped the fence he turned his front end just a little bit so he was quartering away. I shot and he jumped over the fence and dropped. Walked over to him, drug him to our side, loaded him up. However I am most impressed with my shot at 250 yards, on a quartering away shot, 1 bullet, and I will be completely honest with everything going on this last year I haven't shot this rifle more than 5 times since last years buck, so I was happy.
