Surviving Minnesota!

The thing about keeping Fancy pigeons is that you don't need to justify having them for some practical reason. They are simply a hobby for one's own entertainment and enjoyment. They really don't eat much and are quite inexpensive to have and keep.
You could eat the eggs if you wish, but it takes quite a few to make an omelet.
Chickens on the other hand eat much more and it seems they are either not laying enough eggs or too many. Those who become obsessed easily find themselves heating a coop and using lights to stimulate lay so they can produce early chicks. These early chicks they grow out to run all over the country to shows in an attempt to feed their ego. Oh wait, I better get off this subject as I may have been there myself.

Oh crap I live with a chicken whisperer with telepathy! I am in trouble!

Our beloved daughter says to me, “Mom that bantam pullet on top shelf was acting strangely during chores, attempting to hide, then squealing, so I put a fake egg in the corner for her to be comforted by and to teach the male not to mess with her eggs.”

Fast forward 12 hours and I start chores and what to my wonderous eyes do I see, 2 eggs in the cage, and the real egg was cold. (For all you non believers this is a single mating pen, one male one female and the female has never laid until today.) :D
