Surviving Minnesota!

I keep a mouse trap set in the run where the girls can’t reach it and have caught probably 8 or more mice these last few months, usually find it on the ground with the dead mouse. Today I can’t find it and I raked the run all over looking for it :sick

The era of Cuddles has passed. Cuddles was found non-responsive under his feeder at 3:12 pm today. Efforts to reverse rigor mortis and revive him failed. The first responders refused to give him needed CRP.

Here are a few Cuddles pictures. This is him in January 2016 wearing his stocking cap in sub zero weather..

This was November 2015 when he kicked butt in New Ulm.

These are just pictures he posed for over the winter of 15-16 as he sat in confinement in a heated cage to keep his comb intact. Note to all... keeping a rooster in confinement for 6 months with no contact with any living creature except yourself, will turn them into a lap chicken that follows you like a dog...

I will miss him. I was trying to decide whether to breed him or a cockerel son of his. I guess I will use the son now.

Sorry for your loss I know you really liked that bird. I am surprised that Hoover is not been named suspect in this case.

It appears to be natural causes, however, I am sure the authorities are looking at Hoover’s where abouts, considering his shady past....

Btw if I get another pen built...Hoover is going to get some girls.. he is one solid little guy!!! I know he weighs more than I am allowed to lift right now.

:( I'm sorry.

Got home from town to find my backup black cockerel dead. I forgot that we were going to town after church so while doing chores this morning I left the door open on the coop with a board in front to evade him to go out and the layers to come in. Came home to him dead about 50 feet from the coop. No blood or feather out of place, guessing he may have gotten stepped on by a cow. A good lesson though, always have backups. Thank goodness he was a backup, even though I was planning on breeding him later on

Oh my.....so many deaths.

Sorry to hear about Cuddles and "Blacky".

Well I just ordered my Christmas cards....yup you guessed it....Christmas has sprung up on me this year. All the wrapping is nearly done, the tree is up and the cookies have been baked so I feel like I have accomplished something.

I made a decision much like this today..

I had a choice between peppermint or apple cinnamon tea... I went with peppermint ...... apple cinnamon is really more for days I feel like kicking up my heels.
That seems like a hard choice Ralphie...

Sorry about cuddles. He was a good guy...

Sorry about your Cochin ILL

Well this was my final choice. His calves are a little bigger than I’d usually want a heifer to have but we have had bigger. His EPDs are beautiful and he’s built beautifully too.

This heifer is big so I’m not too worried. She weighs 820lbs at 8 months. She put on almost 40lbs since Thanksgiving (amazing growth rate considering they only got a few cups of feed per head per day) so I’m sure I’ll have her plenty big next year. She’s a good heifer and I can’t get good pictures of her as this frozen ground is hard for them to stand on and look decent...
