I have a 3week old buff orpington chick displaying these symptoms:
-Thick, sticky spit
-Mashed up feed and/or bedding stuck on the roof of her mouth
-Difficultly swallowing
-Mouth always slightly open
-Makes this weird clicking sound that's hard to describe. Definitely not a sound that it should be making
I think it might be gapeworm. I swabbed the back of her throat with a Qtip, and I didn't see any red Ys. I did see a bunch of pink-grey squiggly things though, as well as a bunch of feed/bedding, and more of that sticky spit.
I do have a feed store within driving distance of me (this is where I purchased this chick along with the rest), and I will call them tomorrow and explain the situation. I do not have access to a vet qualified for treating chickens.
What should I give the chick? Any medications recommended? And where would I locate the necessary medications?
I live in the Seattle, Washington area.
I separated the chick in question.
