Suspicion of Weasel - Need Advice!

Thank you again R2elk, and chickens really and Howard E for your replies!

Yeah, that helps - we had very good luck making it hard for predators to get in so far, except in the run where they spill food, like you said, and after 5 years the mice dug under the floor and brought snakes and now this weasel, it seems

I will clean up today and seal the floor and hopefully get the predators to go for easier prey and leave us alone again

eerie to think we are sharing the territory with a copper head and weasel, though - hope they never kill a bird or hurt a person around here

The Weasel was attracted by the mice being they eat mice..Although will kill Chickens too.

BTW, if you decide you want to trap your weasel, I am working on a prototype rat trap/weasel box. Uses the standard weasel type box, but replaces the the wooden rat trap with a 110 body trap (aka, conibear). Trigger can be rigged to go off a number of ways, depending on the target......rat or weasel.

Have been busy with work, but if things let up, I hope to build the prototype and post it for comments.

You may have rats rather than a weasel, because all your birds haven't been killed. Your plan to hardware cloth everywhere is good; only poison baits will really get rid of rats.
I'm fighting a mouse infestation this winter, and can't pour a new concrete floor until spring. It's been miserable, but the poison bait stations are making a big difference. I do hate using them, but sometimes it's the only way.

sigh, yes, I know we get into conflicts with wildlife, especially bringing Guineas to this area and wanting to keep them safe, so I understand

I really try not to do anything cruel and yet have killed and caused cruel deaths through what I do

exclusion is my next planned move, that and being better about not offering so much food and shelter for the critters I don't want to see around

"Operation Weasel" is in full force - I am exhausted and there is more to come

cleared the run today - that was hard - had to scrap some very useful and trusty, old enclosures with 6 Guineas sitting the bathroom who need to go back ASAP - got as far as clearing the floor today - will lay wire and cement tomorrow or that is the plan - gotta get up early to beat the rain/snow/sleet to get the cement home - then Monday everything has to be re-built

this is really not something I wanted to do now and so quickly, and I hate for the birds to be so confined for so long - but it is a bit of an emergency with that weasel threat

will keep you posted, if I can

here are today's impressions:
