well ive been putting asking if my pullet is close to laying. people have said she is close. every morning around 9:00 ive been putting her in a nest box. i have two so i put her in both and in both of them i have a plastiv egg. today she stood there acting suspicious she just stood there pecking they hay and the plastic egg. so i think shes close to laying im i right

I don't think they start laying until their comb and wattles are fully formed.
My buff orpingtons and barred rocks are 17 weeks now and just finally beginning to sprout a 1/4" comb.

One of my two remaining 'old girls' who haven't laid since last year get in the nest box every couple of days and then sing the egg song, so nice to have mentors

I wouldn't keep putting her in the nesting box... is the box in a private part of the coop without much noise going on? she could feel that she doesn't have a secure enough place to lay her egg

yea its secure and dark i even put the nest box about two and a half feet off the ground

She must not be ready to lay yet then. What kind of bedding do you have in it?

grass shavings

That's what I use and the hens will clear it down to the board floor. So that may be what's doing it

you could try laying the grass hay down more thickly
