Sussex chick - any photos to share? I am trying to determine gender..

GardeNerd, sure looks like a hen to me. I have never had that breed, but nothing about that bird looks like a rooster, imo.

PotterWatch and crackertrail, thank you for the input.

My neighbor, KaraNchun, is about to sell two of her other pullets, and I would hate for her to be short a bird if this later developed into a cockerel. I didn't think SS were usually supposed to be that slow developing.

That's a hen. It was obviously a pullet in the first pic, don't know why the other poster said that. No worries

gosh, I thought it looked like a hen too in the first pic...but when someone said definitely roo, it threw me! I'm new at this, I have 4 week old Speckled Sussex, and was hoping I was getting better at my sexing. I'm glad others agree that it's a hen!!

The speckled sussex I posted a pic of for the OP to use for comparison has been caught in the act of laying an egg numerous times in the last week and a half. It a pullet absolutely for sure!

Gardenerd, I guess you answered your own question. Still, I was going to tell you that it was definitely a hen. My roosters were obvious by 6th week and only grew more obvious as they aged. I have found that SS hen combs don't pink up hardly at all until a week or 2 before POL, the roos on the other hand pink early and completely.
