To sell birds you have to purchase a sale cage. Their around 3 dollars i think. You can leave whenever you want. Their is no admission into the show. When purchasing birds, i would assume they only take cash. They usually have everything from chickens to ducks, geese, and pheasants. It all depends on what people bring in. For information, here is the info from the website:

For some reason this show does not require pullorum testing either. I always did it just in case, but you don't have to.
They sell EVERYTHING! They usually have quite a few bantam barred rocks, OEGBS, and a few other breeds that I see quite often. Sometimes they have rabbits too. I also see call ducks, but they can be pricey. I have seen geese sell for GREAT prices and I bought my trio of blue slates for $35.
I went last year we really enjoyed it and won something at the auction. I won a BEAUTIFUL hanging basket of plants that looked like nothing when I got it but grew so huge I had to divide it among several pots by the summer!! I think the hanging part even broke under the weight! Oh maybe I should not have said that DONT BID ON THAT ONE lol
I will have to figure out what I am wearing so ya all can find me. I will be with my daughter and possibly a friend.
How many cages do I need for grown roosters? I just wanna give em away if the person that seems to want them decides not to.
What does a sale cage look like? Do you keep it?
I went to tractor supply to save $ on my feed, does it count as savings if you come home with chicks and ducks and starter feed 50lbs? UGH!! LOL! If you see me buying something tell me to step away!!!
Chickerdoodle, would have been nice to see you again, did you look at that horse I suggested that we found the same time on craigslist?
I did email her and she said it was $2500. I never did get a chance to mention it to my dad, but if she still has the horse after the 5th I may take a look at it. I'm going to be working with Stetson this summer, but my dad is now thinking HE wants to get a new horse...which is actually MY excuse to give him Stetson and for ME to get a new horse! I wanted to wait until I had the time during the summer to look so maybe we will end up with a new horse, maybe not. Sonny is about 27 years old and his trail days are getting shorter and shorter.
I'm sad I won't be at the show Sunday. It's just been sooo boring here at school this weekend, so I'm really wishing I was home right now! I just ordered 75 chicks though and will be trying to sell a good majority of them. You WILL need more chicks, right?? LOL
LOL, I've always been pretty decent at persuading! So everybody better watch OUT! But truthfully, who can resist a cute little fuzzy chick??
I actually ended up ordering the cackle surprise special, so really I could get anything! Last year, I got two turkeys, two ducks, and about 45 various chicks. It was a wonderful combo and most all were hens! I also ordered 25 modern game bantams. I will probably only be keeping a few of those and a few from the cackle special. I may be getting some goslings too, but haven't decided on those yet. I will only be raising those to sell.

Depends on how many your selling. 1 cage can probably fit 5, maybe? The sale cages are the same cages that the show birds use, so unfortunatly we cant keep them lol. They look like dog crates. Hope that helps.
Well...as for ¡§For Sale¡¨ you may not have missed much. I was there by around 9-9:30. Last year it was all in one building if I remember correctly. This year the ¡§for sale¡¨ and food were in the building behind the one from last year which is more open, and chilly. I found the man who was renting the cages for $2. I needed two since they were small and I brought with us 3 large red roosters, the white one in case we could find him a pet home, and two bantam cochins one black and one white with a black feathered ring around its neck who my daughter liked. I made her pick only one to leave one at home and she picked one we call Elvis to stay and sent this one called Tea Cup if I promised it to go to a good home. The man renting cages asked me how much I wanted to sell them for. I am thinking free sounds good to me or $4 to make back for the cages. I just wanted them gone! I asked him what he thought. He said just put $5 on it. I also put on the tag that the birds were less than a year and that the white one was for pet only and was about 2yrs. I put my cell on the tag. I put $5 each on both tags and though what they hey
! Bobbi and I brought them in, set them up, and headed out to explore. So....
Poultry Show cost so far
$4
There were some white rock babies, and just a few of another. No baby geese, no big geese for that matter for sale. There were only a handful of geese for judging. Later in the day there were some Flemish Giant bunnies which were beautiful. But I think that was the only bunnies for sale. There was a pair of Royal Palms for $50. They were pretty. There were a lot of roosters. There was a LOT of pigeons. We decided to head over to the show area and to look at the Chinese auction.
Cost so far:
$4 cages
$5 Chinese auction tickets
My daughter loves those little figurines that came with the tea bags, Rose tea or something like that. She missed out on them last year. She put some tickets in that one and we found some nice things we wanted to put our other tickets in. She REALLY wanted this pile of books that had Star Wars books, Jurassic Park books, and Wishbone books. There were some Chicken things I liked and a mini greenhouse from IKEA. Bobbi wanted one of the homemade apple pies or homemade cookies. We both put tickets in those. I couldn¡¦t resist putting in for some homemade oatmeal cookies! Mmmmm! We headed over to eat because it was getting colder and damp and I needed some coffee.
We stopped by to check on our Roos first. My daughter talked to a couple who were looking at Teacup. She was telling them about how he got his name and how we raised them. We went over to eat. We ordered a hot dog, bagel, and chips with cheese, coffee, Hot chocolate and enjoyed some warm food! I hate, ewww hot dogs but this was good. I even ate it with no bun. Back to South Beach Dieting. I am trying to lose weight after being homebound most of last year with a broken foot (whole nother story) I feel like a beached whale. Anyhoo, we ran into the couple and I told them if they wanted him for a pet then they could have him. They went back to the cage and took both the black and Teacup and still gave us $10. Yea! I am never quite sure what to do when I say they can take it and still want to pay. Especially listing them here for so long for nothing. They got two really nice birds though.
Show cost so far:
$9 out
$4 food
$10 in!!
Spent $3!
So we went back to look closer at the show birds. I saw a woman we know from a Pet Store who has ducks. Her duck won! Yea!! There were some pretty birds and some of them were more familiar than last year. I took some photos and we went back to the auction area and got seats. I got us another set of tickets and put some extra into some of the things we wanted, and some of the things we didn¡¦t.
There was the CUTEST little boy in a red jacket who wanted the trucks on a pile. I put a ticket in for him, he really wanted the trucks. It was getting very chilly just sitting so we put some newspaper on our seat and headed back to the sale area, as if something was going to appear that we needed. That as we already know is NOTHING! LOL!
Show cost:
$5 out for more tickets!
Spent $8
We stopped by a table where a really nice man was selling stuff about pigeons. Did you know you can attach a whistle to a bird and when it flies the whistle of course with the wind blowing thru it, it whistles?? Who would of thought! Not that I need to make any bird louder¡K Hmmm. For two years now Bobbi has wanted pigeons. Some of them are unique! Did you know there is a pigeon that rolls over! Do you think when God made those he laughed, those and fainting goats¡K I think so. I had no idea how to care for pigeons so we passed last year. This year I had heard on public radio this guy talk all about a book he wrote on pigeons. I have to listen to that station while I clean at one of my jobs. It sounded so interesting and the history behind them and all the ways they were involved in history. The man at the table said pigeons did not take a lot of room and if we gave them a space in the coop then they should come back. We needed to get something called a pigeon door that lets them in but not back out. Interesting never heard of that. I wonder why only one way. We of course needed to watch out for hawks and such just like the chickens. At this point it was getting colder outside and the dampness was creeping in despite our jackets. I told her we could go look quick. She saw some helmeted pigeons that she really liked. As the owner was selling some of his birds to someone else and offering him many birds for less money, Bobbi and I held our breath as the guy ran out of money for more birds and we were able to get a deal on four for all the $ I had left $16! Gee Whiz! Bobbi was thrilled. She really wanted the brown pair and they were still left. She got a pair of brown and a pair of I guess black but I think the guy called them blue. We packed them up into the car and headed back to the auction area. Bobbi was thrilled!! I saw two I liked, in a different cage, a different breed. When I looked at them their eyes dilated back and forth. I forget what you call that but I used to have parrots and that meant that they liked you. But alas, no mo money! We headed back to the auction area.
Show cost: -$24
Shortly after we sat down my cell rang. Some man called about the roosters. I ran over and met him by the cage. He wanted all the ones we had left, what luck! Ahh but he wanted them to eat. I told him he could have the 3. The white one earned his right to live. He seemed to think I was odd I think. He wanted to know how much I would take for the rest. I am thinking hey nothing was good, but being a haggler I said 10 for 3? He was still trying for 4. I stood up for my roo. He stayed and the three went for $6!! Now I had cash for the pigeons I liked! I had no idea where the owner was and there was no phone number on the card. I went back to the auction which had begun and Bobbi was watching our tickets. Bobbi thank God won the figurines this year. She was so excited! I hope I can find her more. The little boy won his trucks!! Yea!! We watched as item by item was claimed. No Apple pie, no homemade cookies. ¼ Someone got the books she wanted! She was SO disappointed. She, like me, loves to read and I am so glad she reads! She loves Star Wars. They were old used books. She wanted to go ask the lady if they wanted those or not. A little girl won them, not usually someone who reads books like that. I told her to ask if when they were done if they passed books on after they were done. I gave her a piece of paper with our numbers on it and the names of the books. I told her to say that you love the books and if they were done reading them would they consider passing them onto her. Bobbi is only 13, and I am a single Mom, she has never seen her sperm donor (you have to earn the right to be called Dad). She politely walked up to the lady and asked. The woman gave her all the Star Wars and Jurassic Park books. That was SO nice of her. There are SO many times in life we want something. There are SO many times we do not ask. Why not? If you do not ask you may never get better. I remember a speaker saying that he asks for upgrades and such and often gets them. WHY NOT! You do not have to be haughty or obnoxious. I have to admit I can get wimpy about it sometimes. I was very proud of my daughter. Even though she had a disappointment she pursued and this time got what she wanted. She is 13! I think she rocks! That family went on to win at least one more stack of books which actually were most likely closer to the daughters age related. The 50/50 passed without wining also, I scraped together change for that one ticket!
Show cost: $25
I wanted to get our Roo, see if anyone was by the pigeons and get home. I was tired! Finally a woman came by to gather her birds to go home. I told her I was waiting and glad to see her. I wanted two of them! She told me that I could have them all of I wanted, even have the cage she brought them in. She did not want to bring them home. I told her to take the $ even though she said I could take them. There were like 10 birds in the cage! We grabbed another nachos and cheese with change off the car floor and off we went! A very good day.
Days tally: got rid of 5 Rooster
Brought home 13 birds I think
Spent $31 after taking in 16.
Smiles and time with my daughter-priceless!
I took my 22 month old to the show and he was truly captivated! He couldn't get enough of the roosters crowing. He kept calling to them as he passed cages thinking they would come to him like our hen.
I loved looking at all of the different breeds! It was my first poultry show, since we just started keeping chickens this winter, and I thought it was a very nice day.
