Sustainable Meat / Standard Bred Dual Purpose Bird Thread.

I found this a couple weeks ago and thought it was a good guideline for picking the keepers. I tried downloading it then for later, but the downloader kept separating the audio and video files, but got a different downloader add-on to do it right.

I have some standard bred BR, that are massive, beautiful birds, but not very productive. Make a good roaster after 28 weeks. I just ordered some Freedom Rangers from the Freedom Ranger Hatchery in Pa. in order to have some tender meat, and just on a whim added in some Henry Nole New Hampshire's. Supposedly a true DP bird leaning toward meat production. He also breeds hybrids, so I am assuming he understands how to breed for production. He makes the statement, that they breed true, so it sounds like he has done a lot of crossing, which Based on the two photos available, would appear to be the case, not exactly SOP compliant. At this point I don't care, if I could have POL at 6 months and decent tender carcass at 14 weeks I would be more than pleased. Is anyone familar with this line of chickens? Thanks.

If i am looking at my Buckeye chicks right and I have two roosters. I will use one to cross my Delaware hens. Then if I hatch any Dark Cornish eggs I will cross with them. A lot of ifs there.:celebrate

I have some Barnwares (Barnevelder x Delaware)
It’s a sex link cross
Pullets red
Cockerel white with black

Early results are showing great growth
Oldest chicks are in Oregon from eggs I shipped to a friend
7 weeks over 900 grams

I have five here now in nh hatched 5/20 and 28 I’ll give to anyone who wants to give them a try
Guessing they will be table ready at 14-20 weeks old

Wish I was closer as I would love to try them! I've only mixed my Dels w production reds for sex links (keep the girls as layers and eat the boys). The cockerels were definitely bigger than the pure Del cockerels but I'd like to try some other gold gened rooster. If you ever get the chance would you mind posting pics of the chicks and maybe their parents?
