I see a lot of threads for birds that are attacked by predators, and some are followed up with how the surviving bird is treated for injuries, and survives.

Let's see those predator survivors!

Please be sure to include the type of predator they survived and any other pics.

This is my girl, Fury, short for Furiosa.

As a pullet she survived a fox attack when he got in their grow-out pen.

She lost a whole wing and half her tail.

Antibiotics, amputation, vitamins, and lots of time and TLC and she's doing great.

At 15 months, you can hardly tell anything is wrong with her until she flaps her one wing. She cannot fly or glide down, so she uses a ramp to get up and down roosts.

This is her good wing.

I hope to see some of your suvivor birds and their fighting spirits honored here!

This is Lucky. I rescued her from a fox this past May. She wasn't mine at the time, but she is now. We had a bad fox problem this past spring and shortly after I came in from "fox hunting" one morning I heard my girls make an alarm call. I grabbed my gun and went out the back deck and saw a fox running down my lane towards the woods with a chicken in his mouth. I couldn't shoot at him because of tree limbs, so I shot up in the air and he dropped her, but then picked her up again. So I shot again, he dropped her and started to run off then turned back to grab Lucky again so I just shot off rapid fire and he ran off and she ran into my woods. I found her frozen in shock up against a tree trunk and brought her into the house to convalesce. I treated her wounds and put her on a high protein flock raiser to regrow her feathers. She had 3 puncture wounds and was totally scalped in front of her tail. Within 6 weeks you couldn't even tell what had happened. And only 3 days after the attack she laid an egg...a pretty BLUE egg!

I think I know who she belonged to, and this person does not care about his chickens. Every year he buys a new flock to replace the ones taken by predators the previous year. When I warned him about the fox problem he said he didn't have a way to lock them up and they'll just have to fend for themselves. So you can call her rescued or stolen, but I fought for her and nursed her wounds so I am keeping her!!

Well my one chicken Sunny never got hurt but she escaped a hawk who tore out a ton of feathers from her and more recently she outran a coyote I think, as my mom heard the chickens going off and ran out to see a coyote standing near as pile of white feathers, She was perfectly fine just a little scared, the coyote rash off but came back a couple times before he realized there are always people and dogs around :D She has to be the luckiest chicken we have, even with the coyotes and things around I've never lost a chicken to a predator in the four and as half years I've had them, I would post a pic of her but don't have any on this device she's one of the leghorns in my pic though,

This is Meanie #2, one of two Black Stars we used to have and the first to give us an egg. Despite her name, she was one of the friendliest chickens we've ever had. Meanie is no longer with us, but she had an amazing survival story.
A raccoon broke into the coop one night and killed all ten of our chicks and injured Meanie #2 and another hen. Meanie #2 sustained terrible injuries from the attack and we weren't sure she was going to make it. Her neck feathers were twisted, her beak was out-of-line, and one side of her face was damaged. But she lived...and the raccoon did not . Not long after she recovered, Meanie #2 was attacked again by a dog who bit into her thigh and left her limping. But she lived. For four more years she managed to eat and drink with her tongue sticking out and to walk (limp) around the yard with the other hens. She mostly enjoyed hanging out with the other Black Star, Meanie #1 (who was also a VERY special chicken!). So adorable!

She could've lived longer, but a fox got her in the end. :hit She was seven years old. I miss her very much.

Pidgie has been "half-eaten" twice when he was about 1 or 2 years old. I used to keep him in a chicken-wire pen and something was able to reach through the fencing and take a huge bite out of his chest--I mean a 2"x4" chunk of his chest! Maybe he was trying to fight it off and it grabbed him through the wire. I didn't expect him to live, but I cleaned the wound every day with peroxide until it scabbed over. Animals have an amazing ability to heal. After the two incidents I moved him into a hardware cloth pen and he's never been harmed again. He is now 13 years old. I have no idea how his crop wasn't punctured (or maybe it was & healed up) but he's had no problems at all.
