I was gifted an older male dove who is sweet as can be but coo’ed constantly so I was on a mission to find him a wife. I drove an hour and got her but she’s very hands off. She’s a year 1/2 old. I’ve had them together for 6 months and he still coo s and bows to her and I’d say they are bonded. Now, I got a new dove. She’s 2 months old and will perch on my hand. I’m working to keep her socialized because I don’t want her to be unfriendly. Would it be cruel to rehome unfriendly girl and rebond my male with new younger girl? Thanks. I know it’s not ideal but if I can find her a good home I’d prefer to keep to friendly bird together.

The ideal would be to put both ladies with him and see who he prefers. He may make the choice for a nicer lady himself.
Or even take turns with each wife.
Love that idea! My new girl is only 2 months. So he can’t mate with her yet. And honestly I’m not sure if he’s even bonded to his current girl. They never preen each other. He will sit on the fake eggs for her. She’s constantly “broody” but I don’t want babies so I don’t let her hatch. He’s 7 and was given to me and honestly I never see him mating with her either. I have 5 doves total. My other pair will coo and preen each other. It’s adorable. It sounds bad but they can live 20 years and I don’t want tode with a bird that’s not friendly. I may have to wait till the little one is a little older. I think the female, the one in the picture that I don’t really like would totally be fine by herself. I just know the boys don’t do well alone
