Pretty sure I know the answer already, but just to confirm!

They’re approximately five months old. Here they are with their two obviously hen buddies (black and white is my owlbeard and the grey/brown is a whiting true blue):

Hahaha thanks all! That’s what I thought. His name is Freya (lol) and was sold to be as a 8 week old pullet. He actually lives with a big old Welsummer roo (incidentally named Thor), but there’s enough hens to share so there’s been no issues.

He’s crowed a little bit, but it’s sort of a henny crow, so I wasn’t positive.

It is unfortunate to get a cockerel instead of a pullet if you don't want to have any more roosters, but it can also be a nice surprise if you are capable of having another one and the rooster turns out to be a gentle one!

I bought 4 BOs as pullets but got 2 cockerels. So far they are sweet!

Agree, definitely! I’m allowed roosters in my town, and actually have a bunch of them (four seramas, one d’uccle, and my welsummer), but I didn’t necessarily want another large fowl one. I like the bantam roos - they have so much character. My serama roosters are my little buddies.

Not a huge deal, I have 17 large hens (with plans for maybe 2-3 more), so two roosters should be fine. Worst case he’ll go live in my bachelor coop with the Seramas!

Hopefully he’s nice - my welsummer Thor is a bit of a nightmare to me, but I can’t fault him for acting like a rooster 🤷🏻‍♀️

I got pretty lucky with my lead rooster. He is a Buckeye named Hops. I can hold him and pet him and he has never shown any signs of aggression toward people or my puppy.

Hops will let the ladies have first dibs to any treats, even watermelon. He is a gentleman.
