She is one of two sisters abut 4-5 years old. The other female is fine. But the other is weak and mostly wants to sit sometimes head out sometimes tucked. When I approach her she gets up to move away. She is not eating that I can see and does not respond to treats like normal - doesn't even get up or look my way. Poops are dark dark green. No other visible signs and no injuries. She keeps opening her beak in a stress like manner when I am near. No sound from her though. Her sister is making it up for it! I have her locked in her enclosure but she just stands or sits with her beak to the door wanting out again.

I have electrolytes and some chicken antibiotics on hand (tetra, I think?) Will check. Should I administer. Worry about the weekend. My husband is not excited about me taking her to the emergency clinic... ;o/

Any food I can entice her with? Any other suggestions?

Thank you all and Backyard for all your help these last 10 plus years! <3

Sounds like worms, when my duck had worms she would do this mouth open like she wanted to squack but couldn't thing, we worked her and she got a little better each day. Hope this helps.

Thought abiut that? Can ducks be egg bound like chickens? She doesn't strain at all. I will check her today when I work her. Thank you!

Thank you everyone! I spoke with the feed store matriarch while buying the wormer. I had forgotten how mites make chickens anemic which causes lethargy just like in us. We figured that out with a down chicken last year and she helped us resolve that problem. My husband would hold her while I gave her meds but his arms would be covered in mites. She said that happens to ducks as well which makes sense. We had someone else take care of them while on vacation for two weeks and there was a a major heat stroke right before we came home which would certainly boost the mite population especially if they were not allowed to bath and free range daily like we let them do. So worming, dusting, and offering oyster shell again.

I think I see a pet diary in my future to look back on what has worked with all these animal friends!
