An early Christmas gift...send you 12 chicka instead of 10
Haha well thats what the whole batch was so YAY!An early Christmas gift...![]()
“Packing Peanuts” are usually cockerels. It all depends. Sometimes hatcheries add what are affectionately called "packing peanuts". These are extra cockerels added to the shipment to help "fill up the box" so the chicks you ordered don't get too chilled.
If you asked them not to send packing peanuts, they will honor that request, if it does not put the ordered pullets in jeopardy of being too chilled.
Some hatcheries include a "free exotic". This is almost ALWAYS a cockerel, and only exotic b/c it's something you don't want! Again, you can refuse this as well.
If you've ordered enough chicks that packing peanuts are not needed, the hatchery may toss in a few extra chicks to make up for the likelihood of DIS (dead in shipment) chicks. These extras should match what you ordered, both in breed and gender.
Hatcheries usually claim 90% accuracy in sexing.
