Sweet PDZ inside coop

Of course I have been having issues with flies this summer inside the coop. I have installed a poop board under the roost with Sweet PDZ and it has helped tremendously. The coop floor has pine shavings and works well. The problem is that at times there is poop on the shavings and attracts the flies. My questions is: Is it ok to have Sweet PDZ on the coop floor without the pine shavings? Can any issues arise from that?? Thanks in advance.

Inside the coup should be fine. Some people even cut it 50/50 or more with sand to make the PDZ go further, depends on how big your coup is. If you do cut it with sand, go for a course construction grade sand rather than a soft play sand, it won't get as dusty as the fine stuff. From what I have read on here from others, do not do this outside, if sand gets wet, it will STINK, no matter how much you clean it but, as long as it stays dry, as it should if it is inside, it seems to do well for the people that keep sand in the floor.

When we first got chickens I read that vanilla repels flies and to use those christmas tree-shaped deodorizer (for cars) in the coop. I figured it would've work but thought 'what the heck' and bought a package. I hung them around the coop, freshing them from time to time with some out dated vanilla extract. Believe it or not, we've never had a fly problem.

I use granulated PDZ in the chicken's poop trays (makes cleanup a breeze!) and their bedding (KoopClean) has powdered PDZ mixed in. I also scoop out any poop I happen see on their floor. I don't have a sense of smell, but I can tell you that I have never seen more than one fly at any time in their coop EVER, and even that occasional one is a rare occurrence.

I swear by the stuff.

yes, right now I have some vanilla trees hanging and with the PDZ, it has made a difference. Also, hanging sand which bags with water and a few pennies in them deter the flies. Sometimes I feel like I spend too much time in my coop! lol
