Hi from Brooklyn, NY wise chicken gurus!
We are expecting our 3-4 Silkie chicks next week and will eventually be housing them in an Eglu cube. The run is 24sq ft (for now at least) and it will be covered with a tarp. The ground is dirt/mulch that drains well. A small portion will sit on artificial grass that I plan to cover likely with wood. Looking for insights into best substrate to use on the bottom of the run. There seem to be lots of opinions on the topic! The most important feature for us is odor control as neighbors homes/ gardens are literally attached to ours. I was considering sand w daily scooping and also came across Koop clean which sounded appealing as well and seemed like something the chickens would enjoy scratching around in. Thanks so much for everyone’s help!
