I read recently that it's a controversial issue how much birds can taste; they're supposed to eat things that they think look like what they're supposed to be eating. However, different types of birds do have a varying number of taste buds; some have up to fifty (not very many) so they can taste some stuff. Haven't researched how many chickens have. I have my own views about what they can taste... I don't care how many taste buds they have...after watching how much our birds enjoy berries and watermelon...it's hard to believe they don't taste much!
I swear my Roo can. I had some raspberry jam on a piece of toast and he LOVED it - I mean he was just nuts over it. He didn't go half that crazy for plain rapsberries or plain toast.......who knows?
