Sweet?

Since it hasn't been mentioned yet i'll state the obvious.
Birds sence of smell is just about non existant and in humans , most of our taste comes from smell, with the exceptions of sweet. salty, bitter and sour.
Maybe chickens have few taste buds but have allot of brain devoted to the processing of what signals they do recive from those buds. ("allot" being a relative term)
It could also be that All of their tast buds are devoted to sweet and bitter, the two most important tastes.
Sweet = good to eat
Bitter = poisenous.

But im just making all this up as I go along so,

someone will have to research it.
