I noticed this swelling today while the flock was out foraging thru the back yard. I dont see any visible injury, there is no discharge from eye or from nostrils. She seems to be eating and drinking fine. One of the 3 Barnevelders I have was sneezing after drinking some collected rain water in their plate. IDK if it was her or not. It is only on her right side, the left side looks normal.
We have had ALOT of rain this month, 8.5 inches so far, alot of mud in their run this past week. All the other girls in the flock (17 all together) look fine.
Anyone know what might be the cause of this???

The swelling is worse today, and now its starting to get bubbly. I have separated her from the flock for tonight & will try to get her an appointment tmrw w the vet.
Does anyone know what it could be and how to treat it?

I think you are dealing with a respiratory disease such as mycoplasma, coryza, or one of the others. It is contagious, so separating the chicken from the others is pretty important. Tylan 50 is an inexpensive ($12) medicine that you could use to treat your bird. It is better in a shot (1/2 ml. given in the breast muscle as a shot for 3 days in a row) or orally 1/2 ml. by mouth for 5-7 days. The shots are fairly easy, but you need to get syringes and needles at the feed store.

Brought her to the vet, he doesn't think its anything too serious. He gave me some tobramyecin drops to give her. She looks a little bit better but now I have another hen with the same problem. Started her on the same drops and seperated her from the others too. Waiting for the vet to give me a call back.
