I'm planning on switching from my 250w red light to a 100w heat lamp that doesn't put off any light; and just wanted to ask if there is any good reason not to do this, assuming that I can keep the temp where it needs to be? I have to have the red light so far away from the chicks that I'm thinking that a 100w bulb closer would do the trick = energy savings. But also it would allow the chicks to have a real night's rest. I would have an additional light on in the room for a few hours so that they have a night of 6 - 8 hours. THis would give them 16-18 hours of light to eat and drink. Any reason not to do this that I haven't considered?
