Switching over to Laying

I have almost 4-month-old pullets. At what age is it important to switch them over to laying mash instead of starter grower? I have always just guessed.

I always wait til mine are at point of lay or have started laying their first eggs. For me that's been 5 to 6 months with Brahmas and Orpingtons.

Mine stay on starter/grower til then or sometimes flock raiser.
