Swollen cheek, raging infection

We live in the country. Regretfully, chickens are considered disposable and there is no vet care available.

Is the metronidazole benzoate dosage 100 mg per 5 ml on your label? She should get at least 250mg daily. How much have you given her? The FishZole capsules available online have 250 mg. If you haven’t given 250mg per day, then I would try that dosage, and perhaps order the Fish Zole.

MG is mycoplasma gallisepticum, a bacterial respiratory disease, while ILT (infectious laryngotracheitis) is one caused by a virus. Fowl pox is usually only a problem in hot weather when mosquitoes are out.

A vet could be helpful if one is familiar with birds or chickens.

Is there something else I can give her?

You could try Baytril.

If she were mine I would remove all pus, give Baytril and metronidazole.

It's an individual printed label, there is no specs on it. I will find out, but I told them she needed 250 mg daily. I am giving her 4 ml. Her last dose was today.
This morning I removed from her throat one of these flying ant/termite that are prevalent here now. She sure does have an appetite!
I touched her cheek today and it is hard. I take it it's uncomfortable because she really was fighting me trying to touch that chick. Would the cheek be hard if it's canker?
Casportpony I have thought about that. It was hard enough this morning to remove that ant caught in her throat. How do you go about to keep her beak open and prevent her from fighting you off?
I will look for Baytril.

I think you should consider slicing the cheek open to remove the pus.

She is doing better and is eating non stop.
I finally found a vet and am taking her today. She still has a hard time swallowing and her cheek is still swollen, although it has gone down a bit. I want to make sure she doesn't have something stuck in her throat.

To all of you who helped me along my journey with my little Spitzy, I must regretfully say my visit to the vet was the final effort to help her.
Spitzy went over the rainbow bridge that day.
The vet said she likely had a tumor in her trachea. Surgery was not an option as she was too weak.
She fell asleep in my arms.

Oh no, I am sorry to hear that you lost Spitzy. It was very hard to lose her, I’m sure. It is interesting, but sad to hear about the tumor. Do you know if she also had canker? This is enlightening when someone has seen a vet and gotten a diagnosis. It helps us all to learn about diseases. Take care.
