Swollen chick

Ya I was hoping to not spread it to everyone and thought it was weird that the birds that showed symptoms are still alive but the ones that didn’t show symptoms just died within 3 days of having them...

And no smell, but I know that doesn’t matter

The only two serious illnesses i found when researching the symptoms when my birds had it was Coryza and MG. You can treat the symptoms but like previously stated birds remain carriers for life. Everything i found is that discharge, sneezing, wheezing, heavy breathing are all associated with these diseases and as well as a terrible smell associated with coryza. My birds never had any but the swollen eyes. I spoke to the state poultry vet and he told me since no other symptoms are present it is likely neither of these twos. Just a serious respiratory infections. Also highly contagious and only a handful of my birds caught it and only three died which he said also lowers the risk that they have it since they are both highly contagious and deadly.

I am so sorry your chicks are sick! I had the exact same thing happen two weeks ago. I brought in 6 new chicks (all my others were healthy, but killed by a neighbors dog). They seemed healthy when I bought them from a reputable place. About 3 days later, one had face swelling, she was lethargic the first day, but afterwards totally normal other than the swelling so I brought her inside, kept her warm, having to feed and water her manually the first day and night. Then as soon as she healed(four days later) two got sick, then another until it had passed to all of them, the symptoms varied four swelled, two had nasal discjarge, but all were lethargic. But now they are all healthy, symptom free. From research and help on this site, I have concluded it was a respiratory diesease. I treated with saline in the swollen eyes, then applied coconut oil to the swollen eye and ears. Then I warmed vetrx by putting the bottle in warm water, dipped a q-tip in it, applied that to the top of the mouth and under the wings (to be inhaled while they tuck their head) and once the forth got sick, I realized I needed to get something more helpful, tylan 50 had been recommended to me earlier in their sickness, but I had hoped to avoid it.. however, it ended up helping A LOT, I gave each chick an injection intp their breast muscle of .20 of the tylan. This seemed to have helped them by the end of that same day. Also, it is very important to keep them warm, I have since moved my chicks inside (my coop has heat lamps, but there have been some really cold nights here in texas). They are still inside during the night, but i let them in their fenced yard during the day. They seem very happy! I hope my experience helps you!!! Chicks are so fragile, but my ladies have.made it through the same sickness you are dealing with, I am hopeful yours make it too :)

Even if you didn't start at first you should separate the sick ones from healthy ones as well as any of your new chicks. Could you please tell me or show a picture of their eyes? Are they clouded or are their pupils strangely shaped? Have you gotten birds from this person before? How are they moving around? Does it seem like their legs are in pain as they move? I hope they get better but some respiratory diseases can be incurable so try to save the rest of your flock.

And be sure to contact the seller. I'm assuming she/he didn't knowingly sell you sick birds and need to know so that they can take measures to keep it from spreading to her/his flock. The seller *might* also recompense you in some way....

Thanks for all your replies. Only two remain... the two that I never brought outside, but the two that have had the most visible swollen eyes. I’ve been using vetRX and I ordered denagard based on another suggestion. I separated the two from the rest, and hope that the others don’t get sick since they were exposed for a while. I hope that these two can pull through. I did inform the breeder. He just quickly said he had never had chicks die before when he brought them outside and told me they were cold hardy... so I just decided to not buy from him again.
