my 3 month old chick has been suffering from a swollen eyelid (completely shut) for a couple days now and has been recently weaned by the mother.
however, the mother still sticks around. she occasionally flies over the fence separating the chicks from the mother and chases them around until they stay away from her.
today i got home and found that the chick's swollen eyelid was busted open. the eye was still not visible but the swollen lids were torn and some pieces missing. i am assuming the mother hen flew in earlier today and attacked it.
the chick doesnt seem to be showing any signs of pain though. it's acting like nothing is even happening to it.
could someone please tell me what is happening to it?
Note: the skin above the nose was somewhat swollen as well and is also busted open.
