tl;dr - I think my girl has an upper respiratory infection. She is not eating or drinking on her own. I have a vet appointment on Friday, but do not know if I should attempt treatment with LA-200 now or wait for the appointment.

Long version:
My EE girl Beatrice came out of the coop yesterday (Tuesday) morning looking dejected. I picked her up and found her with her eye swollen. She's the bottom hen, so at first I thought someone had pecked her, but now it seems much more likely to be upper respiratory, because she's acting so unwell, and one of my buffs has hoarseness and slight wheezing. Beatrice's breathing sounds a little wheezy, but no gurgling or gasping. No bubbling eyes or nose. Her poop is liquid with some solid bits in it--is that what chicken diarrhea looks like?

Her eye is watery, and she is keeping is mostly closed, though she can open it. I put her in a hospital cage in the laundry room, and by afternoon she was refusing food and water. I am giving her water with an eye dropper every few hours, but she does not like it. This morning she ate two tiny bites of scrambled egg and a couple pieces of cracked corn. She just wants to sleep.

I found a vet who can squeeze her in on Friday. My backup plan if I could not find a vet was to treat her with LA-200 from Tractor Supply, and now I am not sure if I should do that or wait for her vet appointment. (I do not have Tylan--have ordered some for future.) Would I do more harm than good to treat with LA-200 today and tomorrow, then take her to the vet on Friday? If she were eating and drinking, I would wait, but she's not and that is most worrisome.

Both are 23 weeks old. EE/Beatrice is not yet laying. Buff/Not Alice has been laying for a few weeks.

Try giving her oregano and garlic. That always worked when my hens had swollen sinuses.

Ooh, interesting. Can I use dried oregano or does it have to be fresh? Perhaps scrambled eggs with oregano and garlic mixed in at the end is in order for the flock.
