Swollen eye with hard dried puss

My Little Rhode Island Red has been fighting fowl pox for these last 3 weeks. She has a little pox on her nose. This weekend we started noticing her eye was beginning to swell. Today her eye is swollen & has dried hard puss stuck in the eye. We can't even move the puss we tried using warm water but it didn't do anything.

You will probably have to use some warm compresses on the eye, and apply some saline. Then you will need to gently get it out with QTips or a manicure tool or tweezers. Eye infections can be pretty serious with fowl pox, and I hope her eye is still intact. Terramycin eye ointment applied to the eye twice a day would help after cleaning the pus out. A vet might be able to help if possible.

My chicken has exactly the same thing, fowl pox and now the eye looks just like this. Where you able to get it back to health again, and if so, what did you do?

I slowly pushed out the pus. Since the eye lids were puffy I pushed top eyelid up while pushing the bottom eyelid down. After a minute or two it popped out. Now she back to her old self. She still has her vision in that eye.

Even though she's smaller than the others Roo (rooster same age as her) thinks she's mighty fine looking. She has become his favorite hen.

I wasn't able to get the puss out, but it has dried up, the eye is still shut, and the chicken (hopefully a hen ) is a lot smaller than the others, but I think it looks better. That yours is doing well, gives me hope that mine is on it's way to recovery as well. Let's hope for the best.

I wouldn't just leave the eye dried shut. Warm compress and saline swab a couple times a day until she can open the eye

Use warm compresss. You have to get it out or the chicken will lose its vision. You'll have to hold the chicken tight so she doesn't wiggle. Try slowly opening the eye. I wonder if you have a face steam maybe that speed up the process instead of warm compresses. I never tried the face steamer option but it might work

My blue silky has had the same thing. Eye specialist said it most definitely was from an injury. I treated with Terramycin which seemed to do the trick. Its been a few weeks and now her eye has been closed shut. I did a warm compress today and was able to pop out a chunk of hard yellow puss. What worries me is that I did not see an eyeball once the chunk was removed. Any thoughts?
