swollen eye

Can anyone tell me what may be wrong with my hen? Her eye is swollen, mostly by the corner and above. She can't close her eye. No scratch that I can see, and it isn't watering. She is in a coop with 4 other hens. My thoughts were that she got pecked by one and it got infected. Thanks!

Can you see any peck marks on the eye? Has she been picked on lately? Usually a swollen eye can mean a respiratory infections such as mycoplasma G. (also called CRD) or coryza. These are infectious and cause chickens to become carriers as well as the others exposed to them. I would watch for a bad odor, nasal or eye drainage, cough/sneeze, or bubbles in the eye.
