Our newest babies shipped from the hatchery on Tuesday and arrived Thursday. The cochin bantam seemed okay but yesterday and today her eyes looked squinty/tired.

She is eating, drinking, pooping, running around, totally responsive and seemingly normal. No gunk or discharge from eyes or nose.

Worried about what could be the cause for the puffy/swollen eyelids and how to help?

First picture is the cochin in question, second is another chick who's eyes are fine for comparison.

EDIT: both eyes are swollen/puffy and look the same. So it's not just one eye that is having the problem

I also have a bunch hatched Tuesday and delivered Thursday. I'm seeing a bit of eye pecking going on with mine. Nothing excessive yet. Seems to be happening more with the ones with lighter fluff, it makes the dark eyes stand out more as a target I guess?

I'm not sure how exactly to stop it, I think its kinda part of the territory of baby chicks.

I did put some colored zip ties on a couple chick's legs to tell some of my similar ones apart, and that seems to also have worked to be a good pecking distraction tho.

Oh no! I didn't have any eye pecking with our first flock of babies, these two don't seem to be doing it either thankfully. But I think you're right, kind of just the nature of chicks. Dinosaur lizard brain I suppose haha. Hopefully they grow out of it!
